June 2, 200915 yr Yep everything looks decent except the motherboard... overkill unless you can cite a specific reason why it should be used over a $250-300 board. Sound card? Any HDDs to accompany new computer? Case? http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. June 3, 200915 yr Author Mobo was chosen 5 minutes after I should have left for work this morning Yeah I'll probably only spend about 2-300 on it, any suggestions? Might even go to 6 or 8gb of ram, not that I'd really need it. Plenty of HDD's from current PC. Got a case off my friend who's getting a smaller one. KB/Mouse are fine, got a 19" LCD that's still working great. EDIT: Evil recons I should get a new monitor. Samsung 23" 2333SW Wide LCD Monitor $400 inc gst. How's that sound? June 3, 200915 yr BenQ do a 24" for around $400, why limit yourself to 23" when for the same money you can be floating in the heady pleasures of a 24"? I mean common, thats a whole extra inch for you to look at . . . or think of it like this, your little nomnom rabbit will be left out of the screen if you go for the 23" one . . . . just think how sad you'll be without little nomnom there to stare at your soul all day? btw it sucks seeing all these "i have cash build me a PC" threads when I'm still stuck with my current box an i wont be able to play some of the new games coming out with the eyescreamingoodness that is eye candy:disgust: Yes i do have a big bowl of sour grapes and you cant have any! June 3, 200915 yr Again, nice except the mobo, maybe a quad core if there is one for comparable price/speed. Very nice PSU, I have one, I think the same and its great. All the right connectors for modular come with it and works a breeze, even keeps going through some brown outs. http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
June 3, 200915 yr AMD or Intel? Price vs bang for buck? It's hard to find info about board specs without trawling every single manufacturer but the difference between chipsets is in features and you have to take into account whether or not you would ever use them. Crossfire, PCI2, more USB, firewire etc. Performance is usually close to on par. Here is a quick thread I trawled up: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=777352 Most people recommend a P43/P45 chipset for value and still quite speedy. Even my P35 is good enough for my single graphics card needs. Still runs at 4ghz on air. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. June 3, 200915 yr Mmm for the motherboards I don't believe the PCI-E16 bandwidth is yet saturated, and thus for the 4870 you're not going to have any issues. Also, the 4770 is out [$~160] and apparently crossfiring two of those babies will make it absolutely fly in bang-for-buck terms... but of course you then run into the many perils of multi-gpus. P45 does seem good... basically you look for the best board that fits your requirements (SATA ports, layout, NB HS, IEEE1934, PCI slots, USB etc etc etc) for the best price in your budget. So you say... $300 let's see what we can find! Also, the BenQ G2400WD is very popular these days, for only ~300-350 you get 24", great response time and a reasonable looking bezel. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. June 3, 200915 yr I'd go a $250-$300 mobo + 24" Viewsonic monitor and consider a GTX275 ~$360? instead of a 4870 Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png

June 3, 200915 yr Check the new x2 550. Nearly as fast as the E8400 and much cheaper, uses less power too. Plenty of reviews out and about. Don't forget the triple and quad cores from AMD too. AMD are taking a different direction to Intel again and I like it. June 5, 200915 yr That motherboard is frighteningly expensive. Is it worth that huge price premium? SOP has advised me the same thing (sorta) but could not agree at the time. In this case 100% agree, you could get a basic x58 chip mobo for $100 less and spend the money on the 920 i7 CPU which destroys anything else other than the better i7 chips. Apparently Intel is also about to have a price drop. I've been researching my purchase for a couple months and have already seen the premium stuff drop a lot. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake.
