Posted May 31, 200915 yr If you have read my other thread on TS then you will know I have had some problems with my computer of late. In trying to rsolve TS problems i have done a fresh install of windows vista and updated drivers etc. So now I should have a nice clean base to work from. I have installed battlefield, 1.4 patch and PR. Go to start PR and I get a black screen for a few seconds and then stops and drops back to desktop. I have run Battlefield and PR on this computer for some time now so I know the computer can handel the program. It is not the first time I have installed it either so yes I have followed all the standard install instructions. I have now removed all again and installed just battlefield and it still crashes on startup. I have installed Call of Duty4 and it works fine so it must have something to do with just BF2. I have trawled the web and the closest fix that I can find is to remove the battlefield folder from the documents folder prior to startup. I have tried that also and no luck. I am now at a loss of what to do.
May 31, 200915 yr Allocating more memory for bf2 to run? I know psyrus has a link to the rar file for it. Dunno where it went now. Call sign: 'GLORIA' Me: Boss, So you're dead dead down dead? Buzzsnr: Yes, I'm down down dead down. Dead.
May 31, 200915 yr Screen resolution ?,or have you perhapes altered the short cut properties?. http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif
May 31, 200915 yr Author Its happening on either single or multi but COD4 is fine. Some of the fixes I have tried... 1. Sometimes BF2 will not boot if your profiles are corrupt. Try going to your ../My Documents/Battlefield 2/ and renaming your Profiles folder to something different. Rename it back if it doesn't work 2. Use the DirectX updater tool from the website to see if your version needs to be updated. Sometimes conflicts just come for no good reason. Also, try lowering your video settings just to see if you get the game running and then bump them back up. 3. Sounds like it is having issues with the resolution. Also make sure all your graphics drivers are up to date as well. 4. Try pbsetup, seen pb do some weird stuff with all my Crysis Wars and cod5 drama's, might be worth checking for updates. 5. Grab a copy of Driver Sweeper and get rid of all traces of your drivers. Then install your last version of drivers and see if that helps. . 6. I havn't had time to read through all the reply's but I know that the problem is solved but I had the same problem and I fixed it by just installing the 1.41 patch. 7. Search for the file "battlefield2\profiles\default\video.con" Open in Notepad. look for this line: VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@61Hz Replace the bold type with whatever your settings are in dxdiag. Note i changed my desktop resolution to 8*6 when trying to get the damn game to work and i havent tried it with a different setting. Bottom line, i think the resolution is what needs to change, just make it match whatever urs is. 8. When I edited C:\Documents and Settings\ name_of_your_profile\My documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Video.con and changed VideoSettings.setResolution to 800x600@100Hz game working fine 9. A fresh install 10. I have not tried this one... I have a Radeon 9800XT card. I was going nuts. Then I found the problem. The latest drivers for Radeon cards has a problem with EA game software. I contacted Radeon and they told me to go to driver # 6.14.10.6542. I had to uninstall their latest driver and go back to their older Radeon Driver Version above. The game worked and I finally go to play. Since that time Radeon has released another newest driver. I haven't tried it yet. Radeon said it should work with BF2....but I don't think they really checked if it did or not. Install this video driver version which can be found on the Radeon website. May 31, 200915 yr 11. Run a memtest. You can try all the fixes in the world and if your memory is returning incorrect values, just once, you can get completely odd and random behaviour in completely odd and random situations which include different games from the next. It's best to get the memtest out of the way first before you stuff around with everything else. Also, from memory, you can run BF2 windowed and when you crash back to the desktop, the error reason should be visible. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.
May 31, 200915 yr Author Thanks for you input SOP. Now I have no idea about Memtest and what it does. Could you give me a soldiers five on it mate. I am googling it at the moment. Do I have to run it as an ISO? What program to open it an burn it? Everything else seems simple but this may be beyond me at the moment. Still looking into it at though. May 31, 200915 yr Google memtest86+. It will be a bootable CD ISO that you must burn and then boot from CD. You let it run for at least 5 runs, longer is better. Any errors will be bright red. Some Linux distributions (and Windows 7 now I believe) will have it as an option in their boot menus for their Live CDs. There are other downloadable ISOs such as 'Hirens Boot CD', among others, that have all sorts of handy utilities. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. May 31, 200915 yr Did you install ANYTHING out of the ordinary or alter any bios settings before this started happening? Are you trying newer versions of drivers then you were using previously when BF2 was working? Have you managed to play BF2 on this computer using vista before? Is your BF2 cd still in good order and are the patches ou are using possibly corrupt? Are you getting any errors during install? It does sound like a memory problem as SOP suggested. MEMTEST would be a good idea but I had an issue once like this and it turned out to be a corrupt cd. Also try manually setting you page file to 1.5 times the amount of ram you have and place it on a drive other than c:\. Good luck dude because i know how frustrating it can be... http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/shuffle34.jpg “No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. May 31, 200915 yr Roll back your graphics card driver to the previous version. I had this a little while back when i did a normal windows update but included an updated graphics driver, bf2 started crashing on start up, i never even saw the login screen! Rolled it back and no more crash. Hope that does that job for ya!
May 31, 200915 yr Just run it in a window (change the shortcut to +fullscreen 0 rather than 1, then you'll see the error, be able to google said error and have your solution http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. Thanks for all your help guys and I am not counting my chickens yet but after trying so much I was about to say goodbye to PR. Here is what I did to fix it but bear in mind I did this earlier on today and it didn't work. go to Documents, open the "Battlefield 2" folder, open "profiles" folder, open "default" folder, open "video.con" file with Notepad, it should look like this VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 1 VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 1 VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 1 VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 0 VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 0 VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 1 VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2 VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 1 VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 0.75 VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 0 forth row from the bottem you see "60Hz" change the "60" to what ever you refresh rate is, save it.

April 14, 201114 yr When you log onto BF2/PR how many accounts have you got to choose from? Thats kinda weird since, the 001 and 002 etc. come from the different profiles that are on that logon screen. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
