Alright, new thread about this. What us devs are needing right now, is as many people as possible to help stress test PR v0.86. What that means, is a 64/64 server for as long as possible. This is to try and nut out as many bugs as possible from the release.

 

So, you can help

 

If you are interested, just send me a PM. However, ONLY send me a PM, if you will wake up at 6am (AEST) tomorrow morning (Sunday). This is a bit of an odd time for us, but it is mainly aimed at NA/EU people, hence the time (damn timezones ).

 

The download is a 313mb patch, if you already have 0.85 installed. There also may be a few mb added if you don't already have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (like 50mb max, it's variable). So, the download is not huge. Though, there is the possibility that you will have to download another build come release, but it would be the same ~300mb size. If you don't already have 0.85 installed (which I doubt anyone reading this wouldn't), there is a full ~3.5gb download to grab.

 

Anyway, another thing to note, this will overwrite your 0.85 installation, so if you want to continue playing that until release, you need to back it up. To do this:

 

1) Go into the directory where you have BF2 installed (usually C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2), double click on the "mods" folder.

2) Inside mods, you should have at least 3 folders: bf2, xpack, and pr. Copy your pr folder and paste it next to the original. This should take a few minutes because the pr folder is quite large. Now you should have at least 4 folders in mods: bf2, xpack, pr, and "copy of pr."

3) Install patch .869 into the default path.

4) Save your .856 shortcut, don't modify it or delete it. You'll need it later.

 

When you want to go back and play PR .856, here's what you do:

 

1) Use add/remove programs to uninstall the .869 patch.

2) Go into your "mods" directory (where you copied pr) and delete the pr folder.

3) Rename "copy of pr" to "pr."

4) Use your old .856 shortcut to play PR again.

 

It is highly recommended that you use Mumble when stress testing. This is so you know what is going on, can easily report bugs, etc, that sort of thing.

 

When you get the download links, you just search for 869 in the server browser, and it should be there .

Guys its 9:30 AEST and looking at the Mumble channel its still going full pelt so come get some.

Yeah, it's still going on. I just played for a good 3 or so hours on Qwai. Voip broke at the start of the round, so everyone was using mumble. It was pretty epic.

Awww, my dreams come true (everyone using Mumble).

 

How did it play anyway, besides the stress testing? How did the Medic fixes work out?

Yes, epic win at mumble. VOIP got screwed when the server got reset due to fail windows automatic updates, so everyone joined Mumble... The end result:

It worked out pretty well, except my squad twice had the bug where the limited kit spawning didn't work. The solution is to make a new squad, so I guess it's not game-breaking.

 

There's also a grenadier sound bug where everyone hears the grenadier firing(and explosion) sound, over and over.

Ahh thanks Jerrif, I thought that was my computers sound card going nutz, now I know it was a Grenadier sound bug.

 

OMG FUN FUN FUN, I reakon this will be the best release kits wise, the auto with scope I thought would be epic fail but its really epic win.

The Minimi can provide accurate supporting fire out to 4-500m IRL, so it makes sense to have a decent scope on it to make it usefull at 100m +

Yea i can't wait for that, its going to make the auto kit so incredibly useful.

Hooray for surpressive fire. Maybe this will make the firefights a little cooler.
