Posted May 12, 200915 yr we'll it finally happened, my system hdd crashed due to the stupid seagate 'power down and cant power up' bug thing. and now i have the pleasure of finding a new hdd and reinstalling everything i had from scratch, if i can remember what was on it. on my 500gb hdd i think ive lost about 350gb worth of data. too bad there no quick fix if anyone interested it was a ST3500320AS. and here i thought it was only the 1TB having the issue. at least it lasted for about 8month before it died unlike my 1tb hdd that died with in 3 weeks
May 12, 200915 yr Hey Piro - I had thought that the data was still accessible and Seagate were offering a free recovery service?
May 12, 200915 yr Dunno about the data recovery service however the data should be recoverable (I doubt the platters are corrupt) so yeah if that's an option you def should look into it. I've always been a WD person myself... the 500AAKS have served me very well, running 4x of them currently. I also have a 200 and 250gb from about 4 & 3 years ago which are still going strong. It's like monitors and car batteries though, even the best brands can have a few bad apples. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. May 12, 200915 yr yeah WD myself, our computers at work use to have SG HDDs but kept dying, all replacements were WD ones. Isn't the drive still under warranty? Should be able to score a freebie if it is... There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.

That will be very expensive. Does your Hard Drive show up in the BIOS? It should do and if it does it's not dead. The firmware is applied through USB or floppy. No one can access the drive until it is patched. Any tech you take it to is going to apply the new FW and then charge you $90 p/h to do it. Wow it took them like 4 tries just to get the 500GB ones working again... gg seagate. WD for longevity and raptor! Samsung for price! Seagate for fail! Epically, lol I had a working drive until I patched it with one of their preventative patches ... The firmware bricked my working HDD. They had to release another patch to unbrick the drives their "fix" patch bricked :haha: They copped a lot of bad PR over that disaster to be sure. Did you check out Seagate's forums? Not many good things said about Failgate ,,,,,,, ...damnit i just bought a SeaGate replacement (ST3500320AS) for my other drive that started dying. Whats this fireware thing?
