Need the latest version of FRAPS.

Why? PB update doesn't like the overlay I believe.

You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

Yes, it's PunkBuster. They made some changes a few weeks ago and now something with fraps is being considered a "modified or unreadable file". Something to do with PunkBuster's 3rd party monitoring of the programs running on your computer.

Nothing can be done about it on your end from a technical point of view, other than updating.

Dunno, I have the latest version and am still experiancing the issue too. I'm running Vista 64 bit. Apparently updating it works for some people and not for others.

Anyone heard any updates from PB about why they made this change and when they'll be back tracking on it?

PB was updated yesterday not sure why though.

I had the same problem with FRAPS but for me it was fixed with the new version.

I had kicks, updated it, got kicked once and then it didn't happen again. PB must of updated in the meantime.

I have updated Fraps to full version 2.9.8 and updated punkbuster and have not been kicked yet. I don't want to count my chickens yet but I think it is fixed.

Official response from EvenBalance to DICE:

Some new cheats are now actually hacking FRAPS in order to cheat in the game. We're trying to work with the FRAPS people right now to get this addressed. The current situation is that PB kicks for any version of FRAPS that is not the latest version or any version that has the known cheat hooks. Both Xfire and FRAPS are being used by cheat authors in attempts to hide the cheat without hacking the game or PB directly. The kicks for old versions are restriction kicks rather than cheat violations - players who get the restriction kicks should not be in danger of receiving any kind of ban. A violation kick indicates that PB found a specific cheat hook.

This is in regards to the RESTRICTION: Disallowed Program/Driver [125119] kick, which can be fixed by upgrading to the newest version of PB and FRAPS. If you get a VIOLATION: Disallowed Program/Driver, you're being very naughty! :p

Haven't found anything about the CORRUPTED MEMORY/FILE kick yet, still looking.

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

Seeing as we're on the subject of Fraps: Has anyone on Vista found away to record both what you hear and mic with Fraps in PR?

Other than running a separate audio record program for you're mic.

So far I can only got the Input or Output working. I've tried to feed Input through the Output and capture the Output, but haven't got it to work yet.
I've got a hunch that BF2 is high-jacking the "exclusive rights" to the sound drivers and over riding the manual settings. Will look into it later tonight.

In months of research, 4 different fraps versions and various workarounds there was no way to do it with Vista & a USB headset. Direct stream gives you everything except your voice.

My solution eventually for this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0rxkOoc4dA&fmt=22

Open BF2 & TS

- Jump in your bD channel alone.

- Set your TS to the same as your ingame chat button

- Turn on sound recording as the round starts

- Start fraps recording

- Stop both when you're done

- Sync in vegas.

Quite easy and rather effective. [41 mins of recording = 105MB; so about 2.5MB a minute]

So I confirmed during my lunch break that BF2 seems to overwrite the system preferences when you boot up the .exe

When I get home, I'm going to boot up BF2, Alt+Tab out, make some changes and then see if I can get it working. Fingers crossed I might be able to work some magic.

I've also spoken to a mate who works in the digital editing word and he said something that struck me as rather simple, I can't believe I didn't realise it first: To get a true input looped through to your output, you have to make changes to the input/output device selections in your OS. If you have the input hardware and output hardware selected, all you're going to get is those respective hardware devices - you won't get the loop as the loop isn't made in the hardware, it's done via the various software magikz.

There's often a "What U Hear" or other software variant which will allow a true loop to be heard. If you're recording the hardware input/output, that's all you're going to get - you should be recording the software output, which will loop the hardware input into the hardware output.

... Just gotta figure out how to do it with my sound card. Will let ya'll know.

im getting the CORRUPTED MEMORY/FILE kick with or without fraps. really puts you off when you try to play every few months only to get screwed by pb :/.

I only get it with FRAPs - haven't tried running it in administrator mode yet, am gunna give it a shot tonight. Did it this morning and at lunch time and wasn't kicked, but I wasn't on for very long and I generally only get kicked after about 10 minutes in game, so I'll see how it pans out.

If you're getting it without FRAPs make sure you don't have other third party programs running. There have also been problems reported with Ventrillo, so make sure you aren't running that. Any other third party programs may be causing an issue too!

Alternatively, do a RAM integrity check and make sure your RAM isn't on the way out :)

Yeah, not possible.

BF2 changes your Sound settings when you join a server. Changing them back disables VoIP in game, no matter what you set it to. Because it changes the voice settings, the Vista Direct Sound "feature" doesn't capture the VoIP.

Ca'mon Windows 7. I really really hope it does'nt contain the same prob. Maybe Soppy can answer that if he's reading here.

A Q for Psyrus: I like where you're going with using TS as you're mic recording, that'd be easy to sync with you're fraps file over just using a external audio recording program.

But the only prob I can see is when I really care about recording is when I'm playing more competitively and thus using TS for chat. Is there a way to set it up so when you make one TS button the same as voip that that broadcasts to say a different channel to the one I'm in? So everyone in TS is'nt spammed by my voip? If yes, will TS record both comms channels or just one of them?

Yes you could set up a whisper so a random channel or whatever set to your voip button. The only problem is that it'll still record your other TS comms therefore you'll just have to edit them out when you are syncing [if you want to edit it out]

That'd be fine that it records my other TS comms. That'd be good actually, cause I'll be recording TS through FRAPS anyway.

Not a bad Idea Psyrus cheers mate. Will confuse the hell outa someone if they go into that random channel though :).
