My line of work has me constantly on the move.

I was just wondering if many people have used and had much success with Telstra Next G internet. Also I was wondering what the pings were going to be like and it was likely that I'd be able to play PR with it.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

Can I just add a question to this thread. What are the differences of using the dongle they sell or using a 3g phone? Are there speed differences? Cost differences etc.

Thanks

Sorry penny, no info from me mate :p

Most phones will do 3mb most dongles will do 14.4mb most cell towers in regional areas willmax out at around 7.2mb . Speed for gaming isnt the issue, ping times are usually 100-300 depending on network conditions. Im not certain but I believe bigpond connection traffic is prioritised over data with a phone plan. $ wise data through a BP plan is cheaper than what youd get with a phone plan. Bigpond and Telstra mobile are different arms of Telstra and charge differently.

If you connecting through a cell that has good backhaul (most regional sites still plug into the network with a 2-16mb link for the whole tower) and isnt saturated with traffic from both phones and data you might be lucky and get a playable ping. 150-200. Maybe.

I "borrow" works net while Im away and the best Ive seen is 120 to BigD servers (from Tas) with a ping test.
