Posted April 19, 200916 yr Howdy, I have ctd'd too many times lately. much in angst, specially after waiting to join the 64p cos its full, and watching clips of gloria gaynor in the meantime, to wait for jabal to change maps, wait for the newbs to RQ and the regs to CTD, then for me to join, only to ctd myself (karma?)... anyway. Me thinks PR is somehow needing some optimisation in terms of stability, cos PR is my mod love, but then no other mod cains me with the 'ctd' so much. I run the bf2.exe by ancientman, to give PR more more mem. PB is up to date etc... my system is ocd'ingly smooth and free of lameness (vista et al...) i take it other people are havin the ctd issue at map changes pretty often... but we like PR too much to care...and that gives room for people waiting to join anyway... but i do wonder whether there is in fact a solution, either at my end, or from a dev in the future...because this is about as stable as png democracy at the moment... http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/spambot.bmp http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/whatthe.bmp The Bee Zed Zed
April 19, 200916 yr I must be one of the lucky few who never has CTD's unless the hacker scumbag is about http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z174/ironchefspook/spook_BF2_PR_1.png
April 19, 200916 yr How much ram do you have, and what OS? That patched bf2.exe won't do much if you only have 2gb or a 32bit OS. You could also try lowering your texture settings (or all of them), or upping your page file. http://www.ancientdev.com/images/devsig.png
April 19, 200916 yr Iv got XP 32 2GB and I never CTD unless there is a hacker http://i.imgur.com/rfTYp.png
April 19, 200916 yr XP Pro 32bit 2gig Kingston RAM http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z174/ironchefspook/spook_BF2_PR_1.png
April 19, 200916 yr My PC is also used only for games and as such, it runs very smoothly with very few processes (idles at ~300mb ram) I smirk at all you vista 64 4gb ram people who get CTD's EDIT: More importantly, there are tonnes of fixes available: a) Reinstall BF2, PR, Patch b) Reinstall PB c) Clean GFX Cache d) Memory fix for the .exe e) Page file increase f) Moar RAM!!! If all these are done correctly, its fair to say that more problems will likely arise Edited April 19, 200916 yr by Jono from Marketing http://i.imgur.com/rfTYp.png
April 19, 200916 yr I have vista 64 and 4gb of ram and only get ctd's when I screw up some code or forget something The patched exe won't do a damn thing for you. It's meant to increase the ram limit the exe can use, from the default 2gb, so people with 2+gb and maybe 64bit OS's can use all of their ram. They need to do this because more and more textures are being added, and it just simply won't fit into a 2gb limit when running on high, have a few background processes, running kashan training with asset overkill, etc. So, lower your graphical settings, starting with textures, increase your page file, and if that doesn't work, maybe try a format to clean out all the crap, maybe get some more ram, try a 64bit OS, etc. http://www.ancientdev.com/images/devsig.png
April 19, 200916 yr Vista 64bit 6GB ram with the original EXE; only crash with incendiaries. Jerrif used to CTD a lot but I just uninstalled PR, deleted the PR directory and installed it again and he hasn't CTDd since. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. April 19, 200916 yr Was freezing a bit and lagging, but seems better since I clearing the Gfx cache. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Jerrif used to CTD a lot but I just uninstalled PR, deleted the PR directory and installed it again and he hasn't CTDd since. I only really CTD'd when I'd lag lag out on a map like Ramiel, due to only having 2GB of ram. Got 4GB and it fix'd it. http://www.bigdgaming.net/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=720&dateline=1226123908
April 19, 200916 yr I CTD'd with high shadows, lighting and dynamic lighting. Try turning all those down to medium. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. April 19, 200916 yr I CTD'd with high shadows, lighting and dynamic lighting. Try turning all those down to medium. Interesting... is that ctd during the map load or when you're playing in the round? http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. April 20, 200916 yr Iv got XP 32 2GB and I never CTD unless there is a hacker Me too, Only CTD if theres a hacker, had maybe 2 or 3 CTD's that weren't hacker related but that happened with 'nilla too. People need to go back to old school OS's imo Edit: Turn dynamic lighting off, all it does is make dark places darker.
April 20, 200916 yr Edit: Turn dynamic lighting off, all it does is make dark places darker. It also makes the characters 'glow' IMO and looks pretty shoddy. Source's lighting model is infinitely better. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. April 20, 200916 yr I turn shadows off and lighting to low as well, PC can handle it but I'm used to these settings after running BF2 on all lows for 3 years with 512 ram.
April 20, 200916 yr Author i whacked another 2gb in there a while ago, thinking that would have fixed it. so ive got 4gb on 32bit vista and i applied the bf2.exe ima look at in game graphic optimisation first, increase the page file second, if thats not chipper, then ill clean out PR and do a clean re-install third. Fourth ill just pray thanks for the tips. I know there are more than just me that ctd relatively frequently tho, so aforementioned stuff might be useful to others aswell... http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/spambot.bmp http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/whatthe.bmp The Bee Zed Zed

This discussion has been done before. I'm great at getting locked threads when I start on it. Running no shadows and lighting looks like a cartoon. You are playing Project REALITY. Shadows are reality. Leave the vanilla ideals at the door. Edit: Plus, people work very hard optimising the lightmaps on their creations, you should be enjoying that. Psyrus: They were random, during game. Once I turned them down, they stopped. But, I run High Textures so I can't explain it as that's the first thing that one usually gets told to turn down. April 20, 200916 yr Got everything running on high except for dynamice shadows which I turn off, not for performance but as a tactical thing with being inside buildings and shadows aka Sharqui construction flag in BF2Van. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z174/ironchefspook/spook_BF2_PR_1.png
April 20, 200916 yr So turning off Shadows is a tactical thing now? April 20, 200916 yr It seems that the Shadows and Lighting is causing CTD on loading up a new map. I usually run my settings on Medium settings but have started to run them on High and funnily enough CTD on loading new maps which never happened before. Ive Realised with Spooky's help that Lighting on Low and Shadows Off will stop your CTD. Thats what we've realised so far...WHY??? Is the real question. 8600GT Vista Home 4 gb Ram Quad Core proc. Maybe its my GFX card that needs updating??? Edited April 20, 200916 yr by titsmcgee852 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/ExtractorAUS/BF2_PR_1.png You can run, But i'll still get your kit.
April 20, 200916 yr vista 32bit 4gb ram q6600 and a 9850gtx+. Yer i got da CTD's but i refuse to turn down settings. And its not about the size of your guzungaz that stops CTD's. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/shuffle34.jpg “No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. April 20, 200916 yr BF2 cleaner FTW. It deletes your graphics cache. http://games.softpedia.com/get/Tools/Battlefield-2-Cleaner.shtml http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif
April 20, 200916 yr It's my preference, I find the lighting and shadows crap and have them turned off or down. Have you tried them since you started playing PR? Or is that advantage just too sweet to give up? I think you may find the game wholly more enjoyable when you don't know if someone is hiding in those shadows. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me.
