Posted April 13, 200916 yr Im looking at upgrading from my crappy 512kb connection to a Node NakedADSL2+ plan, with VOIP. I estimate my monthly saving would be around $15-20. My question for the more tehnically apt (or perhaps people who have this service already) is - what kind of Quality of Service can I expect from this new fandangled VOIP-thingy? The missus calls her mother every 10 seconds, and I often take business calls after hours, so I can't afford to have it dropping out or anything. Thoughts? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
April 13, 200916 yr I don't have Naked DSL, but I do have a VoIP phone connection, and it's great. No drop outs experienced yet. http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/2011/lordkabab.png/ http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamahons.jpg
April 13, 200916 yr The quality will be 100%, Base - or at least as good as it gets over ADSL. Many ISPs don't prioritise VoIP traffic through their entire network, especially so for those using Telstra DSLAMs. If you're on an Internode Naked plan on an Internode DSLAM then your Nodephone traffic is prioritised the COMPLETE PATH between your router and the call termination point, in both directions. (assuming you configure outbound VoIP prioritisation on your router). This is exactly how things should be done and solves the problems people have (a) with QoS enabled routers but on ISPs who don't prioritise VoIP traffic (hence the traffic isn't given any priority after it leaves your router, or before it arrives at your router) and (b) with ISPs who perform some, but not complete end to end prioritisation. (let alone © on crappy ISPs who perform no prioritisation and operate heavily congested networks) For the most part, if your traffic load isn't huge, VoIP will 'just work' regardless of QoS and this seems to be the experience of most people. Obviously 'just working' provides no guarantee of working. But NodePhone and possibly iinet's VoIP offering (on their own DSLAMs) is as good as it gets. Note that only NodePhone traffic is prioritised - other VoIP traffic is not. XRogerMellieX: "Fiancee is on night shift and I only see her on weekends. Sunday night is nookie night."
