So... I pillaged my sexy G15 by spilling water on it. Long story short, i pulled it apart, fixed the keys, but now the LCD doesn't display anything except the boot up "G15' logo. Any thoughts?

 

It has power, I've reseated the ribbon cables, but all it will display is "G15"

 

The Logitech LCD utility will not detect it either.

Reinstall lcd monitor drivers?

the lcd will not like that...just like what happened to my moblie phone...screen crapped out after a spill...so I removed all the covers and exposed the lcd screen AND the ribbon cable then put on the dash of one of my cars with the windows up on a nice hot (30-35 degree day ...checked it 2 hours later .....all good.

 

may not work in this instance....but if its "borked"...what do you have to lose..

Yea, my old phone went through the old 'Crap my gatorade bottle leaked when my phone was at the bottom of my bag whilst I was fishing' treatment.

 

I peeled it apart and left it on a rock when I went back to casting. Still didn't work properly for a while when the holidays started so I chucked it in my suitcase and charged it up before school came and bingo it worked again.

 

Prone to failures and dropouts though.

as werid as that may sound.... but it works, least on mobile phones dropped in toilets!

 

put the phone, with cover off in a bowl of un cooked rice. the rice will soak up any moisture clinging to the phone.... its worked on 2 phones i know that have had the toilet mis-adventure, and one pool trip that went bad....

 

now find the biggest bowl u have and try to figure out how on hell you can get your g15 in that bowl with some rice!

 

oh and i recommend not to re use the rice for human consumption.

Sounds like you have dried it out ok but the board isnt seeing the lcd

try cleaning the ribbon cables with isopropyle alcohol wipes . sometimes the conectors can get oil from fingers etc and that can be enough to stop it working even though it looks ok.

Rgr that all, cleaning now. As Fallen said, everything else works, and the LCD gets power, just not 'info' as such.

 

Turns out it was a driver issue with the LCD, and also that I AM THE KING OF ALL ELECTRONICA LAND

Mmm, so after a few days of what I thought was trouble free operation, it seems the entire keyboard works perfectly, EXCEPT for the ALT key.

 

Now as any Windows user knows, the most useful, and indeed most used key combination is Ctrl-Alt-Del. Also used frequently are Alt-Tab and Alt-F4. Both usually used to fix a crashed BF2.exe.

 

Now as you can imagine, this puts me in a bit of a pickle.

 

"Aha!" I hear you say! "But you have a G15! Why not use the On-Screen Keyboard Utility and create a Macro for the Alt key?"

 

Very good idea, I grant you. But in my infinite wisdom, I used nLite to shave some precious MB off my windows install... and sadly, On Screen Keyboard was a victim of this great purge.

 

I have taken the board apart repeatedly to clean and re-seat the parts, but to no avail.

 

Ideas?

I assume (with my limited knowledge of electronics) that they are both attached to the same circuit. So, neither work.

I have never pulled a keyboard apart before, nothing to compare it to lol.

 

Basically two circuit thingies seperated by a plastic..er.. thing, so that when you press a key it pushes them together and they complete a circuit.

is it possible to pry em apart? may be some residule 'stuff' messing with the contact?

they come apart, bbut theres soe contact points to make sure they dont get unseated.

 

I've cleaned what oxidization i could find, but it hasn't helped. its the only key I've have issues with too, which is annoying.

 

I have a short term solution, which is I downloaded an On-Screen Keyboard app which allowed me to creat an Alt-Tab Macro. Strangely it wont let me create a Ctrl-Alt-Del Macro, but nevertheless I can Alt-Tab now, and mouse it from there. Yay!

will it let you do DEL+CTRL+ALT or any other variation of that? Should have the same result as CAD does.

No it wont. Bollocks to it, It'll do. Long term I'lll just buy a G19 or whatever, they look pretty sex.
