Posted October 29, 200816 yr Ok, one more tech question to add to the list today... I have an ASUS Dual VSTA motherboard (AGP and PCI-e slot) - I have an AGP x1950Pro 512mb video card. Does anyone know if I can run a second graphics card from the PCI-e slot at the same time as running more AGP card, or is it a matter of running only one or the other? http://www.asrock.com/mb/manual.asp?Model=775Dual-VSTA&s=n I had a look on overclockers forum but either Im phrasing the searches wrong or their search feature is playing up as it wont give me results most of the time. (Power supply may be another issue, however). Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
October 29, 200816 yr The manual doesn't say you can't use both at the same time. However it doesn't say that you can either. Later on in the manual it actually mentions what you'd like to be the primary output as an option in the bios so I'm going to go out on a limb and actually say you can use both PCI-E and AGP at the same time as well as PCI if you want to. Though you might want to borrow a PCI-E card to test this.
October 29, 200816 yr You might be able to but you probably wouldn't be able to crossfire them, there's no reason why you wouldn't be able to run a 2nd monitor off it thought. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ee/US_Army_E-2.svg/50px-US_Army_E-2.svg.png http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4927/awardslf0.png
October 29, 200816 yr Author Dont want to run them crossfire so thats ok. Was faily certain that wouldnt be an option anyway. Other problem is having enough power available for both cards... Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
October 29, 200816 yr I don't see why you can't run the two, just upgrade your power supply. http://www.bigd.com.au/_bigdfiles/sigs/mh-sig-2016-11.png
October 29, 200816 yr the x1950 pro is a bit power hungry so you would be limited to what other card you could run . you can run 2 monitors from a x1950 (mine had a vga and a hdmi plug with a vga converter plug thingy) just not for gaming, desktop only. :hi:
October 29, 200816 yr Author Yeah I always run two monitors off the x1950pro. I cant remember what my current power supply is but I dont think it would be enough to run 2 cards. 450w I think off the top of my head. Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
October 29, 200816 yr why?? You got 4 monitors kicking around and you are wanting to uberspan your desktop with? I call a rocking chair here Jim. Fun to do, but doesn't get you anywhere. I'm pretty sure since like 1997 all the VGA's have come out with dual heads to run two screens with. You are already running them fine with one of your graphics why use the other? More heat, more power to worry about. http://users.on.net/~mperrin/images/les_mis_kindros.png You're all wrong, and I am always right, and the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be. October 29, 200816 yr Author Was thinking of picking up a cheap card for folding at home, as well as an extra monitor for bits and pieces. So 3 monitors, not 4. Got 3 monitors here but only using 2 atm. At anyrate Ill put it on hold at the moment, just had a phone call that may give me the excuse Ive been waiting for to upgrade the whole pc and get away from the AGP card altogether. This pc was only ever temporary. Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
