Embedding of videos has been enabled.

We have had many requests for the ability to embed videos into post from our community members and have decided that it is a worthwhile undertaking.

We have now enabled it in some of the sections of the forums and from some sites. When posting a video link it will automatically link to the video and embed it if it is in the list of sites that we have allowed.

Videos that are linked must be related to the topic at hand and follow the theme of the BigD community.

As there is no way to accurately moderate the videos that are embedded without causing all posts to need moderation then we will take the following stance.

As this is a public forum with no age restriction (above 13) then there is to be no posting of the following

  • Pornographic material (even soft porn)
  • No Religious or political material
  • No videos that show real death or loss of life
  • Inflammatory videos used to insult other members
  • Controversial subjects that typically lead to an argument
  • No videos containing extreme language or repeated/unnecessary swearing
  • Graphical Violence (real or implied)

All unrelated videos will be removed and the person will receive a warning.

If the video is deemed inappropriate according to the above the offending post will be removed, the poster will receive an immediate ban for at least 1 month and/or severe restrictions on their account which will continue when they return.

This is the first and only warning you will receive.

We hope that this feature will enhance the forums and allow people to view some great videos related to the myriad of topics that we discuss here. We should all be aware that if the system is abused then features will be disabled and sites that are linked to will be removed to those that only hold game related movies.

Please think very, very carefully before embedding videos on this site and enjoy this new feature.

While we aren't enforcing this to the letter these days ie

" the poster will receive an immediate ban for at least 1 month" .

Infractions can and have been issued recently for vids that do not comply with these conditions.

The moderators have a set of basic guidelines they are to follow, but even if an infraction is disputed by a member that has received one, they are very rarely reversed.

And without having a rule book that reads like a legal document the Moduraters have to make the call on what gets deleted, warned for, issued an infraction...or the user account is restricted or banned .

Well, most of you know how to embed videos on the forums, but I still see the occasional post where it's just not done quite right. Anyway, I've been meaning to write this out for a while, but procrastinating my school work has been more of a priority.

Embedding Videos

Step 1: A good start to embedding a video, is having a video that you want to embed. When you have this video, get its URL, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qRJIBtbc2c

Step 2: Find an appropriate thread to post your video

Step 3: When posting hit the "Go Advanced" button, which is located right next to the quick post button.

Step 4: Paste your link into the box and hit post, voila! You're done.

Editing in videos

If for some strange reason you failed these steps, such as just forgetting to hit go advanced (it happens to EVERYONE), then never fear, you can still be saved. It is possible to edit in an embedded video. So if you find yourself looking rather stupid with only a text link instead of the smooth looking video which is bound to attract views and get you heaps of rep points, then you:

Step 1: Find the offending post and hit the "Edit" button on your post.

Step 2: On the edit screen, find the "Automatically embed media (requires automatic parsing of links to be on)" and ensure it is ticked, which, if you failed to embed your media to start with, it wont be. Also, make sure that "Automatically parse links in text" is selected.

It is situated beneath the text box.

Step 3: Select save changes, and revel in the glory of your newly embedded video.

DON'T YOU CLUCK WITH ME, BUDDY!

After that night I started peeing out the window to avoid going down the hallway when it was dark.
