If you are attacked by a animal.. the government gives you right to have it killed.. lol.. pretty stupid to use that rule for every animal attack on a human.
Fear is another word for weakness.

The Bee Zed Zed

I F@@#$%*&^ hate Magpies, I got swooped a few times on my way to work in freaking suburbia. Even thought about getting to the nest at night and shaking the the crap out of it

Nope . . . what my mate n i did was after being constantly swooped when going to the shops from my mum n dad's we both cracked it so went home, got my supersoaker water pistol then went gunning for em.

First bird that swooped got a gut/face full of spray, he broke off his attack run and hovered a bit with a quizical "WTHWT!?!" look on his face, 2nd one came in, same treatment. 1st tried again, same thing, after 3 goes each they both retreated to a different tree. Bear in mind we were nowhere near their nesting tree.

Reloaded then went out, they saw us coming but were hesitant to go their attack run so they sent of a call to their commander for support. Next thing we know, a mob of 4 fly over from another set of trees at the other end of the park and another 4 fly over from the other side of the shops. Me being the good squad leader i am say to my mate "well its your turn now, i'll keep watch from back here an let you know where they're coming from". After a quick tactical discussion about safe ingress/egress routes, enermy formations expected and level of resistance, he goes in. First two birds try it on, one from front the other from behind. My legendary directions save my mate and two maggies are again sprayed. Next a thrid joins followed by a fourth. Water is flying everywhere, birds are squawking and i can see them getting ready to rage quit after screaming a torrent of haxusations over VOIP. Mate does a strategic withdrawal where we both rearm and debrief. Another call goes up, more maggies come in from around the area. Mate looks worried but after reassuring him i'd be standing safely out of range he goes back in relieved. Torrents of water and bird calls are flying everywhere, a mist decends over the area from the constant streams of water flying and birds flying around. As the water runs low, another strategic withdrawlal is called. After a very brief debrief, combat operations are terminated for the day.

Operation "Swoop This Baby" was a thorough success. Men lost to magpie action - 0. Maggies hurt in process - 0, Percentage of maggies pride dented - 100%

Mate and myself were never swooped again after that (come to think of it, dont think anyone else was either). Maggies stayed in the area but instead of swooping, watched from a menacing distance ready to strike should anyone come to attack their nests.

There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.

As much as we all hate magpies just because they swoop and attack using their instincts, doesnt mean they should be exterminated or killed.

For the better 3 quarters of the year they are extremely tame and friendly animals, given the chance. And yes they scare the living **** out of me when walking somewhere

Yeah agree Ryza, they only swoop to protect their nest (my story was from back when i was a young teenybopper).

I heard the best story about a maggie on 720Perth about a year back. They were taking calls on strange pets an they'd just had one about a woman who kept getting nipped by her pet wombat so they stuck up a electric fence to keep him out of the house but he still kept getting in, they set up the camera and recorded him waddle up to the fence, sit down and count the clicks of the fence before crossing when it was safe! Anywho, the maggie. This family had found a young maggie chick in their back yard so they thought they'd rear it. They couldn't release it once it was older as it would've been killed (due to it not being part of a family group an them not liking strangers etc). So they kept it inside and had some small soft toys for it to play with. Said whenever they came home its soft toys would be strewn all through the house, obviously having a great old time (o:

When in trouble or in doubt, RUN IN CIRCLES SCREAM AND SHOUT!!! http://nanourl.net/46e85
What about loading the supersoakers with an irritant of some kind if you and your kids are continually getting swooped???Perhaps some mild chillies crushed up and juiced into the water reservoir in your soaker? So it really pisses them off??Or just salty water??Lemon juice perhaps..mmmm what fun!!
nah, nothing like that. We weren't going out to hurt the maggies, more to 'teach' them not to swoop all n sundry
