Okay I have just moved into the new house, set up the current router setup we had at the old house.

Now this time, there won't be a wired connection to my main computer, it'll be wireless. The New Wireless router and PCI wireless card is in the mail, should be here Monday/Tuesday.

Now I just wanna do a temperary setup, now my laptop is connected to the wireless network. I have plugged a ethernet cable from the computer to the laptop but just can't get the internet thru to the computer.

Any help setting this up would be much appreciated.

Ok, right click on My network places, go to your local area connection and right click and go to properties. On advanced, check "Allow other network users to connect through this Computers internet connection"

Now make sure your Computers network settings and IP configuration are set to automatic.

Why would he want to do this? He's got a router, which is going to be doing the routing and PPPoE authentication for him - why would he then want to try and turn his PC into a router?

Madhouse, set up your router so it authenticates for you (PPPoE username and password). Once it's done that, make sure DHCP is enabled on your router. Make sure you've put in your ISP's DNS server address into your router.

Once you've confirmed DHCP is on and the DNS address is correct, do the following (I'm assuming you're using XP) on your computer:

Start

Control Panel

Network Places

Right click the "Local Area Connection" that has the ethernet cable plugged in to it

Click on "Properties"

Highlight TCP/IP

Click on Properties

Make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are both selected

Then, do the following:

Start

Run

Type in: cmd

In the box that opens up, type in: ipconfig /all

Confirm that you're getting an IP address and DNS.

It should work. If not, let us know why it isn't - IE, router isn't connecting and is getting xyz authentication failure message (or can't establish line sync), or computer appears to be connecting but you can't surf the web (in which case try to ping 150.101.98.221 and let us know if that works).

Uh stabby you'll note he needs the temporary setup for his main PC. He hasn't got a 20m or whatever network cable for a run, so he's using the laptop as a wireless access point. So what Ryza was suggesting was ICS (internet connection sharing) whereby the desktop would work through the laptop to access the internet wirelessly.

But yeah, your way is great for troubleshooting network issues. If you have issues when setting up the wireless later madhouse, follow stabby's steps.

Network bridge anyone?

when your in Control Panel\Network Connections

Select both connections then right click bridge connections.

If Ryza's way fails.

The only problem is sometimes routers don't like bridges ... Sometimes they do.
