September 5, 200816 yr I've got a 7800GTX XFX 256mb I recently took outta my machine due to upgrade...worked fine, dunno what it's worth... 40 mins drive! Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
September 5, 200816 yr He seems to be after a PCI, not PCI-X Wokeye, unless Nvidia came out with a very munted 7800GTX I doubt it's suitable. Nodachi what is the purpose of the graphics card? Is it just for the output or is gaming intended? You can still pick up AGP graphics cards... the 'high power ones' will cost you though... http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. If it's PCI-Express, you're sweet man, you've got options from $14 to $1400 Let me know and we can sort out what's best for you. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. September 6, 200816 yr Cool. Many... many options. Just need to know: - Intended use - Budget Then we're done. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. September 6, 200816 yr PCI-Express, or only PCI... big difference. Says he who uses PCI-X and PCI-Express interchangeably. nedlands1 [WC] Specialist (Combat Engineer) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/52/US_Army_E-4_SPC.svg/50px-US_Army_E-4_SPC.svg.png [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
September 6, 200816 yr Says he who uses PCI-X and PCI-Express interchangeably. Apologies, I had never bothered to look it up. I wasn't aware that the Extended and Express were different interfaces. I wrote it as PCI, PCI-X to indicate the superset of PCI-X16, PCI-X8, PCI-X4, and PCI-X1, but instead I should have put E instead of X. I won't make the mistake again, thanks Nedlands!. September 7, 200816 yr intended use : 2nd pc for some extra gaming when my wife hogs my quad core on her games. Budget: $100 (hence i said cheap) Headhunter: i dont swing that way hehe Alright so if it's intended for gaming you're going to want to look at the upper end of $100 imo, although if you don't care about image quality I suppose you could chuck anything in. http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=9600GT+-cooler The 9600GT is a very capable card and is now retailing for ~$120 but that's 20% over your budget. http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=8600GTs+-cooler The 8600GTS falls about 30% higher than the 8600GT, with a roughly 27% price premium ($63 vs $80). Although if you're going to pay around $80, it appears from a review that the 9500GT may be better, but come with additional VRAM [if that's important to you] and is the same price. http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=9500GT+-cooler Do some more review searches on the 9500GT because I haven't heard a lot about it but it seems promising in its price: performance ratio. I hope that helps. The reason I didn't include ATI cards is I know very little about them. I remember the X1950 Pro was excellent back in its day for performance & price, but I don't know if any recent ATI cards have superceded it. The HD3650 is fail, and the HD3850 comes in at around $110 so I don't know if that's acceptable. http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=HD3850+-cooler At this point you've got a great many options, perhaps someone who hasn't been out of the GPU game as long as me can advise you. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man.
