ok according to my account on bigpond i've been shaped for the past 2 days, however i'm still downloading and at full speed as though i'm not capped. basically has this ever happened to anyone b4 and how do i preserve this make and make it happens again lol!

yeah my annoying step dad locked us into a 24 MONTH contract lol even though we can get like any other isp here so i'm real pissed. however bigpond seems to have a tonne of loopholes, like the last day of the month before your usage resets you can DL as much as you want, or like wats happening with me now lol where 5 days b4 my usage resets i seem to be able to download as much as i want . also if you change your plan each month when your about to run out of usage you'll get more usage and it always makes your monthly fee decrease. im on $99.95 plan where i get 25 gb, and when i run out i switch to a 79.95 plan where i get 12gb (and vica versa), and overall each month it only costs me $75 lol. the usage you get depends on how many days left of the month there are, like if theres 15 days left you'd get 15/30*12gb=6gb, so in the first 15 days where i used 25gb i get an extra 6 lol when i change and it's cheaper.

And be sure to check for new plans all the time, or telstra just keep your old one going (even if new ones are same price but more quota).

 

Happened to me, I logged on a long time ago and there was the plans that were the best you can get at the time 8000kb/s down, 756kb/s up, but the new 24,000 / 1,500 ones came out and they didnt change my plan over. (they were the same price).

Doesnt mean you cant go through another isp just means no adsl 2+.

Im with internode as an example and Im connected through a telstra dslam and node lease my adsl connection from T and onsell it to me.

Not as good as through there own dslams but a lot better than Telstra.

Sorry to disappoint you but Telstra certainly do not offer anything but annex-A on their DSLAMS. Their ports are sold at funky premiums as such:

Their cable is 17000/256 (lol) and 30000/1000 in select areas. Plus they count uploads so it's no wonder they castrate most of their connections because people would end up with those $20,000 more and more often.

yeah but thats cause its your day b4 usage reset, my usage reset is still like 4 days away and its been happening for the past 2 days lol.

Same here except with Adam Internet... As they host or are GSA it counts as my local download and not my internet dl limit...

Yeah ADSL2+ has a generally accepted max of 24mbps [although it can go higher in special cases] however Bigpond decided in an effort to not be 'deceptive' about obtainable speeds, they'd advertise up to 20mbps instead of up to 24mbps. This is from the company who wouldn't budge on their unlimited* advertising despite it having a rather harsh 10GB of dl/ul quota.

 

Ahh the hypocrisy of that company makes me giggle.
