I seem to be having random crashes to desktop... I can play for hours straight, then all of a sudden, mid-round, the game will spontaneously vanish from my screen.

Is this the type of CTD which is fixed by stuffing around with punkbuster, or is that usually the kind of thing which rears its head as soon as the round starts?

No error message or anything, game just closed. Weird, a lot of people have been getting it.

I've just deleted the pb directory and re-run pbsetup a couple of times so will see how that goes, in conjunction with watching my system temp closely

Thanks bahlye will give that a try (didn't do the pbsvc thing)

It's absolutely stupid that pb causes this kind of behaviour. It shouldn't interfere with the game at all - hell, if it has to, at least a message box saying 'pb stuffed your game' would help the troubleshooting process!

I been getting it every 2-3mins, seriously, I crashed 6 times within 45min. Have deleted and reinstalled pb.. Will try it again later.

Did the pb reinstall thing (including pbsvc.exe) but it happened since then - video card temp wasn't particularly high at the time so I don't think it's a temperature issue.

At least it only happens about 1 in 5 rounds I suppose.

you can also try delete the Cache folder (a lot of ppl's CTD's have been because when they have changed resolution, the shaders havent optimised. deleting the cache forces them to optimise next map you load).

it worked for me (touch wood)

did any1 find a fix for this, i've tried the cache and pb and temps are still within reason but still have the issue. i can run 2 large maps in succession then the 3rd crashes or 3 smaller maps and the 4th or 5th crashes. not sure if this is of any relevance but just a pattern i've noticed. mine doesnt crash at any particular point either, can be at map start mid way or still in the load up.
