I keep getting firewall warnings about a couple of trojans and keyloggers.

AVG Free has not detected them and SPYBOT Search and Destroy has gotten a bunch of them but not all.

What should I do?

Will I have to format?

use sytem restore if you got the viruses recently. just pick a date to restore to which corresponds to when your computer was working fine. note that any files you may have edited/downloaded since the time you pick will be lost (but so will the viruses).

What should I do?

1) Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Back up all critical data (eg photos) immediately.

2) Ditch AVG in favour of another antivirus application and scan the bejesus outta your HDDs. I've found Kaspersky and Panda to be better than AVG.

3) Get a new firewall. This may block trojans that can bypass your existing one and monitor/regulate connections coming out of your computer. I use Kaspersky firewall, previously zonealarm but found the newest ZA package to conflict with my PC.

4) Use Firefox. Less exposed than IE.

5) Stop accessing all those smut and hax sites. :not_i:

Is it that easy?

I used one of the checkpoints from a couple of days ago is it that simple?

I put a partition in my hard drive, can I back up files to the partition that I never use?

stop the dodgy porn .

How do you know it was porn and not my girlfriend being an idiot?

After that system restore there seem to be no more warnings from my firewall of unauthorised usage.

Do you think I got it?

Remember to unplug your modem, once you have the programs you need to get rid of the problems..

Then remove them...some will reinstall themselves the moment you remove them.

Trojan Killer is a good tool..

google "Major Geeks" and check out the free programs they have.

you could download a trial version of norton anti virus and do a full system scan (takes awhile depending on the computer), this is assuming u havent used the trial version b4. i'd do an uninstall after tho cause norton's still an immense system resource hogger, but its imo the best virus scanner out there in terms of finding viruses.

Hijack This.

It's a program that you run, then post logs to the Hijack This forum and the experts run you through what you have, and how to remove it.

My wife infected us once, I ran it and removed all the things that I thought looked dodgey (didn't use the forum) and it fixed me right up.

You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

The system restore method can sometimes not work as virus' often get into the folder itself. The 'System Volume Information' folder in your Home directory carries every file needed to make the restore happen. Sometimes viruses can get into this so when you restore it infects everything all over again.

When this happened to me I got a free version of Prev-EX CSI that got rid of nearly every malware on my computer. AVG Free is supposed to suck, AVG 8.0 is great in my opinion its everything in one, no problems with it.

If you see certain error messages come up while you know you have the virus, look it up on google or something using the keywords of the warning message, and normally you will find a specific answer to your problem on an IT website or the like

Kaspersky AV for Flawless anti virus and Nod32 for efficiency so if you need the extra ram to game etc.

I can supply both just don't say the magic I word...

I got the Norton Trial and it came up clean after the system restore and spybot run.

I've had no more warnings from my firewall about unauthorised use either.

Think it worked then?

I think you may be safe smokey I run Norton and have not had any issues es with viruses in 3 years

I use Avast.

I used to have a job in Tech Support and I would rather have my nuts

stapled to my forehead than use Norton. It causes all sorts of configuration problems with other

software. Most of the big-company commercial anti-virus solutions cause many problems - we use to just

recommend clients uninstall them and go for a free solution like Avast or AVG...

that said, if it works for you, it's fine. I have had to spend a lot of money

on fixing virus-f**ked PC's before, not to mention data loss...

best solution - don't download dodgy software...

dont look at bad sites like cd key gen sites

but there are other ways to pick up viruses like not having a passworded computer and leaving it on over night will do it

yes it happened to me a guy cracked my system turned off my firewall and drop a few viruses on

try hijackthis (google it) as it mite help stop the virus from starting when you start windows

idiots are hardcoded

Sandy I use to think the same thing but they have made a lot of changes to there software over the years. The reason software companies want you to use the the free stuff is they don't have to have work a rounds for Norton.

Since installing it 3 years ago I have had no conflicts with any of my programs I run and it has kept my systems virus free.

Yea out of all the AV software I'd change Norton for something else..

I use Symantec AV. Much better then the off the rack Nortons crap. Never have had one problem with it in the years I have used it. I don't bother about firewalls either. I find most of them is like pissing into the wind.
