Posted July 30, 200816 yr We have 3 people in TS at the moment that are getting crash to desktop. 2 are crashing after playing for a little while, and the other is crashing as soon as the map loads. All have done punkbuster updates via PBsetup and 2 have cleared their BF2 Cache files. Their must be an answer to this as I have had this in the past and it has gone away or I did something I don't know about. It is a common problem it seems. 2 are running XP 1 is running Vista. PLEASE HELP !!! Edited July 30, 200816 yr by Tactical_Kiwi http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
July 30, 200816 yr I had the same problem as well. For a while. Hasn't happened in a little bit *crosses fingers* Blame EA/DICE and their shoddy coding. You could get them to run Orthos, just to check their computer is entirely stable but, like mine, it probably is and something else is afoot. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.
July 30, 200816 yr Author I really need answers, this has lost us a match on the ladder already... http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
July 30, 200816 yr Have any of them tried full re-installs of both bf2 and PR? That's the only thing that fixed my CTDs http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan). QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough
July 30, 200816 yr this has happend too me a few time in both BF2 and PR. i beleive its to do with Punkbuster. it never use to happen untill i installed the last update. a few of my clan mates and allies have the same issue. have they got a few mods installed becasue this can cause issue with shaders. July 30, 200816 yr Ya. check your CPU heat as well, turn up the motherboard fans if you can, depending on the motherboard type, look for a driver/add-on software for that brand. For me it was Gigabyte. Updated PB totally, then I turned up my fan speed substantially, and problem was fixed. Alternately you could take the side off your case to cool it down. Worth a try though. Heat issues, ram incompatibilities, hardware faults can be narrowed down by using a utility called Orthos. It's always best to take out every variable. Run the utility for at least 5 hours (preferably when the room is at its hottest). If you get no errors or lockups, you know its BF2/PB/Graphics related. Orthos is the ultimate stability tester. This isn't aimed at you Ryza, just using your quote to reiterate what I said earlier and that the utility could probably have helped you. And probably still could. Programs may not be crashing but your system isn't entirely stable. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. July 31, 200816 yr I would assume, if he has run other games on his system, that his system is stable. Most newer games are much more taxing on a system than PR. Not that overheating does not happen. It just happens less than most people think. Also what are the chances that 3 people mentioned by the OP have all developed an overheating issue, at the same time, in the middle of winter? For several years the cooling companies have virus marketed their cooling solutions. Some of these cause a hell of a lot more problems than overheating. Bending motherboards is one of them. Always look at software first, where you are having issues with only one game. If you have an overheating issue it would occur with all games. Check Start>Control Panel> Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Check the System and applications for any errors and warnings. Check if there are any other applications that are terminating at the same time. See if anything is failing on startup. If its just PR then manually update Punk Buster. Failing this reinstall BF2 + the patches. Disable/remove any programs running in your system tray. Especially antivirus/firewalls. AV updates itself all the time, and if you are having an issue that only recently occurred, without any changes on your part. Sometimes they can cause memory collisions with other program. There is a lot more that you could try on the software front, people have written whole books on it. With stress testing the biggest things you need to test on a PR system is the graphics and memory. There are a few utils that can do this for you. Edited July 31, 200816 yr by DeliciousMaximilian Bushball Victoria
July 31, 200816 yr I get a crash once in a blue moon, just saying BF2 can get very sensitive sometimes. I might have a look at that program SOP I am going to geta new CPU soon so I might use that to see if it really is going for worse [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
July 31, 200816 yr Thanks for that SOP I am downloading it right know sometimes I think my system is running the way it should hope this points to any issues i haven't uncovered. ---- http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/4300/usarmyltgf2.gif http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp
July 31, 200816 yr It won't tell you anything though, just that you are unstable. Next comes the fun part of trying to find out why you are unstable. And HouseholdDog is right. It could be anything, heat/stability was just a tangent. PB is the likely culprit as it was happening to me too. Perhaps PB updated itself. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. July 31, 200816 yr Since the release of the new pr patch I've had a **** load of problems with Pr, I've uninstalled pr & BF2 did all the things which needed doing twice......but am still CTD on a regular basis but interestingly enough the other night I played ArmA to see if it would give me trouble.... had everything on High & V High & not the slightest problem, ran smooth as silk........??? http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/50px-US_Army_E-5svg.png http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/goodconduct.gifhttp://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/teamwork1.gifhttp://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/valour-1.gifhttp://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/ANZSig.png
July 31, 200816 yr mm lately iv ben CTD'ing. Im reinstalling everything tomorrow. http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamahons.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/aerialservice.bmp
July 31, 200816 yr Author Firstly, I highly doubt that it is hardware, the problems have only just started happening and seeing as many others are having/have had this issue I think we can safely say that the general cause of this problem isn't hardware. To me it seems like punkbuster, not updates though as these crashes can happen 5 times in 1 hour. Punkbuster aren't that good at releasing patches. It maybe punkbuster itself is causing the same issues but for different people and when they try fix it and release a patch it causes the same issue for others. I was having a very similar issue but I don't seem to be having the issue any longer. They have been using PBSetup to update punkbuster manually so I doubt its because it is out of patch. One of the guys reinstalled BF2 and PR and it didn't fix anything ! http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
July 31, 200816 yr Is the player with Vista running PR as an administrator? Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
July 31, 200816 yr Author Yeah as far as I know. First thing I did though was turn UAC off http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
July 31, 200816 yr Oh btw have you re-installed PBsetup itself? Maybe theres some problems with it, dont go to the extreme of un-installing everything. Also do stuff like going into your My Documents, Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and empty the two folders in it. Control A and delete baby! Give it a try just throwing some more things out there [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
July 31, 200816 yr I only seem to have this problem in PR, Cant recall any CTD in vanilla http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Fish2%20Temp.png
July 31, 200816 yr Author Reinstall PB Setup is a good idea.... Maybe it is messing up the files as it downloads the Updates, which could crash the game if PB doesn't like your PB files. http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
July 31, 200816 yr Also do stuff like going into your My Documents, Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and empty the two folders in it. Control A and delete baby! Give it a try just throwing some more things out there He already has done this. Says so in the original topic. I get CTD every now and then as well. I am pretty sure it is PB as well. The reason I would look for conflicts, however, is that it seems to only happen to some of the people, some of the time. If it was a simple PB issue we should have it occurring to all of the people, some of the time. Since we are all on the same server I doubt it is network related. BF2 is a strange beast, however, and for some reason network stuff can sometimes cause CTD as we saw recently. God knows why? So we probably get an idea of what hardware, drivers, running apps etc are common to all the affected people. Which AV are you running BTW?
