VOIP Not Working

Hi guys, new to the forums.

I seem to be having on-going battles with the BF2 VOIP, I hope some of you may be able to help.

Problem:

While having a working microphone that is recognised by the likes of the BF2 VOIP Setup in the EA Games folder, the in-game VOIP still fails to work or even register in the audio menu. In game I have no little green speaker icon showing, but can hear everyone else.

System:

Am running a P5K-E motherboard with integrated audio card using Soundmax's latest drivers.

Troublshooting already:

Have downloaded and ran Muvixer (Doesn't seem to do anything)

Ran dxdiag changed the sound down to basic acceleration.

Oh yes, I have checked many times that the microphone is not muted!

If anyone has any help they could offer, it would be greatly appreciated, I'm done pulling my hair out!

This might be a really stupid suggestion, but have you tried remapping your VOIP key...?

I have a G5 mouse which I use the side button for voip... which is "Mouse 3" on the config screen... but sometimes it decides that "Mouse 3" is something else... and I have to remap the key. The first few times it confused me SOOOOO much because I could record sounds in windows, the Voip Setup worked fine... but in-game I'd push the side button and no little speaker would come up.

So yeah... my suggestion is to remap your voip key :)

I'll lol if that's the solution :D

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

Could be an issue with the BigD servers alone (allthough I dont see why nobody else has reported it if that is the case)

Which servers have you tried it on? its possibly the VOIP on one of our servers has gone down. Jump on the TS channel (details are on the forums somewhere) and test it in there

Psyrus,

Have changed the push to talk to Left Alt, this doesn't seem to make much difference.

Allyourbase,

I don't think the problem is server related as everyone else seems to be alright.

Bahlye,

Thankyou, have teamspeak downloaded and seems to work on there which is a plus!

Wokeye,

The sound test does work in VOIP audio setup, I save the settings and log into the game. Does not pick-up any sound at all. I Alt-tab out and find that the sound settings automatically switched to "mute" on the microphone. I un-tick the mute box and try again. Still the same though.

Thanks for the help guys.

I haven't "troubleshoot-ed" yet, but I've got the same thing. Everything was working fine up until the BF2 Master Server went down, now no VOIP. While I don't think it's the Master Server's fault, it's worth noting. I've changed nothing, and my mic works in TS. No green light shows though.

I'll try re-mapping it.

run the external VOIP setup again and go from there.

Try it with minimum threshold and see if you can get anything.

Also try to force your mic cord into the unit a bit to make sure it is seated.

Mute should not matter either, it only mutes your mic from your own speakers really.

You're all wrong, and I am always right, and the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be. That is all!

Va Fan Culo

check that you do not have EAX enabled on your audio settings for the game, even if the motherboard says it supports it.

also have you checked to see if your mic is muted AFTER you join a game?

Use to happen to me till i found out that when the game started loading it would mute my mic.

Well the fact that no voip icon is coming up for him indicates that for some reason it isn't registering that he has either pushed the button, or has a microphone engaged. The EAX is an idea, never seen it happen though... but I use a USB based headset (which broke 2 days ago when I tripped over it, so I'm watching Visone's Headphone thread closely).

after about a hour of gaming the voip icon dissapears for me but its a 50 / 50 on whether the viop goes with it. Sometimes i can continue to play for hours without the icon appearing and then it comes back.

Has happened for ages.

you might have realised that because when have i played for hours lately:disgust:

thats all very true unless you are looking at the recording pane rather than the playback one then you definately dont want to mute it.

try recording your mic in windows just to make sure you have the mic setup correctly

Start > Run > "sndrec32" (for xp)

once you get it working in that then it should be alot simpler to get it to work in game

i recently got a new mic that was USB and was a bit tricky to setup as you had to set the default recording device to a different "sound card"

Edit: just read more of the post seams all ^^ that is not needed in this case

this may be stupid to ask but you've got an X in the audio tab voip enabled right?

have you tested it on other servers with voip recently, bigD's voip is ran on a different server maybe you just cant seam to reach it or somthing similar

Mate, as said I had a similar problem. Tried all the usual things, but none worked, tried remapping keys, but no dice. Was about to reinstall BF2/PR, but checked the settings for my X-Fi again. You haven't mentioned if you use X-Fi, but for me it fixed it all up.

Assuming you do, open the Jacks setting bit, and check to see the flexi-jack mode is set to Microphone, not Line-in. I've always had mine to Mic, but for some stupid reason, it's reset back to line-in. All sorted now - just have no clue why it changed. Welcome to Windows! :)
