Does anyone know anything about wireless? Cause i have a prob thats ****ting me to no end...

Today the Frenzal Household installed thier brand new bigpond router on a new ADSL2 plan, with WIFI (wireless internet). After a fair bit of dicking around i got the wireless connection between my pc and the router up and running, drivers installed, and Network status online. I could go onto websites, went to that Sppedtest site got a speed of 9000kbps, "Hurray! Go adsl2!" i cheer...

I load up PR, click on search for servers...the net drops out...Much to the happyness of my wow addicted bro...

This happens every time i search for a server, servers do get displayed all with a 16 or 0 ping. I randomly click on one, i get in...it disconnects...:(

Anyone?

the first time i loaded pr up and searched for servers, i got a fire wall message saying that its blocking bf2, i told it to unblock, i aslo turned off firewalls to test if that was the prob.

Aslo note: i just tried cod4 too, same prob, join a game. Disconnected.

Wireless can be a bitch at times. You may need to take into account also that a wireless connection will loose about 18% connection for each solid wall it passes through. So while you may get a nice speed on the browser, maintaining that for an intensive period will be another thing.

My suggestion make sure that you have uPnP active.

Update: Tried port forwarding, manually added every port required for bf2...nothing. Unplugged wireless net, put in wired connection works fine?

Whats the next step to getting wifi workin properly?

Virgin sacrifice under a full moon ....... god I hate wireless, never seems to work like the ads or salesman says it will.

DON'T try to play BF2 on wireless - you can do it some of the time but in the end the random packet drops will drive you insane.

is it a wired adsl connection, or wirless connection?

You got sucked into that catchy Tel$tra ad didnt you? The one where everone can do everything on wireless "Those homes, those Bigpond Ho's".

If its wired, try plugging it into a spare port and doing it that way. Thats how I run mine. I only use wireless for the laptops...SUCKAS!

Port forwarding is only used for incomming connections. If you were setting up a server you might need to forward these ports.

First suggestion is to uninstall (not just turn off) any software firewalls you might have loaded. I just don't trust any of them, and it will make it easier to trace the problems.

When you say the net drops out. Do you mean you can no longer even look up websites? Or is it you just can't search for servers?

If he is getting data probblems, then he would more than likely have a transmission problem, Port Forwarding the appropriate ports will generally help with this. It's not just for servers.

BF2 will open port usually to recieve server data, if it's not doing that then there will be a problem.

But it will more than likely just be te wireless connection in general. They are not the best thing since sliced bread.

Its gotta be a wireless connection i think. Cause i can get a solid connection, with no port problems with a direct cable link.
