Posted February 6, 200817 yr I've been having no luck connecting to Bigdy for the last 2 days, on account of my ping. Every other server (in other games too) works just fine, but for both the small and large server I never get a ping under 350 (=kick). I thought it may have something to do with the undersea cable crisis, but I live in Auckland NZ (and as I said, everything else works fine). What gives?
February 6, 200817 yr i to have the mystery ping problem neftaly , i normally see a server ping of 100 - 140 before i join and ingame i ping at about 111 - 100 . now before i join i see pings ranging from 350 - 600 and in game imm pinging between 300 - 500 . wtf is going on , im starting to get just a little bit angry . my missuss told me im acting like a kid without a toy , or some sort of junkie going through withdrawls . help me someone . however i can play texas and battlearena ? ping at 220 in those servers . February 6, 200817 yr It sounds like you guys should be lodging tickets with your respective ISPs. I've trawled the internet news sites and a few NZ ISP status sites and everything says it's running normally. I don't keep up to date with the NZ broadband situation, and I don't know if you have a monopoly supplier of backhaul... it seems that Telstra have their own links... and asianetcom appear to be the alternate route... Sorry Anyone having problems should try these three trace routes: tracert 203.59.24.221 (NZ -> WA) tracert 203.13.37.40 (NZ -> SA) tracert 74.125.19.99 (NZ -> US) It will show if there's any one link common to all your connections that is causing the issue. Perth -> NZ ping is fine for me (<100ms) so I don't know what it is. I have PLDC (Programming Language and Design Concepts ewww) and FCS (Foundations of Computer Science)... so yeah, gonna be working my butt of this semester. I'll still make time to maintain the ladder though... you won't see me in game much tho http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. February 6, 200817 yr Heh.. I sat more than my fair share of supplementary exams to get by - long as you scrape through! A 4 year course? What distinguished letters you gonna get for that? .. and will it look as good as your Heli and Medic badges ;o) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
February 6, 200817 yr It's just a double degree of Bach Business Admin & Computer Sci... diversity, baby! Business degrees are so nice and cruisy, don't do anything all semester and you end up with a distinction. Study for the final and High D is (almost) assured [except business stats... wow was I terrible at that, even though calc was a breeze!)... comp sci on the other hand... This is probably going a little off topic, so I'll leave it there http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. I just jumped on the optus network in Australia and it seems fine: 6 71 ms 70 ms 98 ms ge-wan8-1.ue2.optus.net.au [61.88.221.175] But again, that is a different state and different medium it seems... mine's on the GE (presumibly Gigabit Ethernet WAN) versus yours is on the old ATM style... I'm not huge on the backhaul layers but I'm led to believe they are different iHug are owned by Vodaphone who use the Optus network (or are a subsidiary of Optus... I can never keep track of who owns who anymore) and thus would obviously be using their international connectivity. It would be interesting to see if someone who is with an ISP that uses the Alter.net link but then doesn't use optus for the bridge to an Aussie POP. Alter.net is verizon and from what I understand they are going all crazy with routing due to the cable crisis. Is it possible to take the high-ping autokick off the servers temporarily, please? The reason I'm skeptical about it being AlterNet's fault is because my route to NZ went through their link and I came out with <100ms so it would point away from that, unless they were deprioritizing outbound traffic  Plus, would you really want to play PR @ 500ms ping? That would be unbearable. --------------------------------- I'm pretty sure it's the Hop that goes from AlterNet -> Aus POP that is causing the headaches, because NZ have their own links to the US/ASIA as far as I know, and thus the non-australian latency would not be affected. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man.
