Posted February 3, 200817 yr Basically i've been having strange probs with PR ever since installing it, but i've been putting up with it because well...its PR. But lately they've been getting worse. The problems: Game freezes Game randomly minamises Game Quits (this has happened in game, in menu, and loading maps). Random Chug spikes, can last up to 10-15 secs on occassion (makes flying impossible on some maps). whole pc restarts. Now i've put this down to performance issues, because of the bigger maps/greater view distance, and only having 1gb of Ram. (VBF2 ran fine on med settings). Basically my question is, is there anything else i can do to fix the probs, and if this is a performance issue, get PR running better with out hardware updates? cause due to my motherboard that will become quite pricey... February 3, 200817 yr Yes frenzal this is regular for most of us. The lagg ( chug spikes) is due to the sheer awsomeness of the maps. Crash to desktop and things like that are fairly commen http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7767/hhmw5.png
February 3, 200817 yr If its not a ram or graphics card issue.... Make sure you have killed all programs..(google "End it All"...handy program to run before running game). Deleting unneeded bf2 files(use bf2cleaner),and running defrag and cc cleaner will also help...BUT Its the 1 gig of ram that will be hurting you...... http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif

Give us your comp specs. Kill all programs running in the background (that are safe to kill ie don't kill explorer or task manager) Have you formatted your pc lately? (might be time) Have you defragged your pc lately? (should be done at least once a month) Have you cleaned out the inside of your pc lately? (graphics card fan, box fans, etc) You definitely need 2 gigs or ram to play pr or you WILL get chug. Have you deleted everything inside your cache? (should be done after any time you change any vid settings) - go to: C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and delete everything inside the "cache" folder. February 3, 200817 yr Format, and start 100% clean. If you still have problems, check hardware. http://www.ancientdev.com/images/devsig.png
February 3, 200817 yr Author PC specs Ram 1gb DDR Graphics card: geforce 7600 gt (256) Processor: 3.2g pent 4 hard drive: 120g+250g One of the ram slots on the motherboard is broken, and processor can't be updated much without replacing motherboard, so ya can see why upgrading a lil ram could get pricey, im planing on a whole new system. But will take time on the lowly apprentice wages It was formatted not that long ago, and is pretty clean. Has'nt been defragged in a long time though. Inside the pc is clean too. will give this 'end it all' program a looksy, is it any different from just opening taskmanger and ending stuff? and i'll delete all the cache stuff. Cheers [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/Frenzal/ANZ.png
February 3, 200817 yr Frenzle google "sledge hammer" Use that on ur computer its cant be saved http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7767/hhmw5.png
February 3, 200817 yr I also agree that one gig of ram will be hurting you. PR is just too intense now to run well on one gig of ram. Turn your graphics settings down as low as you can go. Dont expect to be able to play maps like Fools Road and possibly Battle for Qinling. Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
February 3, 200817 yr Author The only map where i have significant problems on at the moment is Battle for Qinling, i don't bother flying on that maps cause i know i will chug out and crash. And i get frequent spikes whilst on foot or in vehicles. Its more just the random game quiting and stuff thats giving me the ****s. February 3, 200817 yr Well... as an interim solution: http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=ASROCK+4core (~$70) http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=E2160 (~$80) http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=2gb+ddr2+667+-512 (~$50) New motherboard, ram, CPU = $200 http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan). QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough
February 3, 200817 yr FRenzal, I was having exactly the same problems as you, and they were slowly getting worse. A $425 upgrade later and I now have a machine that flies through BF2 on maxed high settings and zero crashes, bugs, weird desktop minimisation issues etc. My Mobo was the culprit... http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp
