Dunno why but in the last week or so I get crapy ping, It usualy kicks me within 5minutes. Yet I can still download full speed... like 6 new movies this week on 1500 adsl is pretty good and some muzik.
Fear is another word for weakness.

Well.... Last time I had that problem I uninstalled the whole BF2 etc etc and started from scratch & never had that problem since...

If you havnt been able to play for 3 days it may be worth a shot...

Well go to Start Menu > Run > CMD

Type in "tracert www.gamingsa.com" or "tracert 203.13.37.40" and post back what the tracerts are... to copy in command prompt, right click and select "mark", then highlight the area you want copied, and right click again. This will copy the area to the clipboard, and you can just ctrl-V it into the reply box. Here's an example of what you're looking for:

Because you didn't open command prompt (CMD). That's what you type in "Run", which opens a non-volatile command box, which doesn't expire when its commands complete.

Yep there's a trading halt on their shares until the statement release... chances are it'll be excellent news. It should bring the cost per mbit down for the ISPs, to which it will entail higher quotas at the current prices, or lower prices @ current quotas.

With the SXC (Southern Cross Cables) holding a virtual monopoly at the moment, and with the exhorbitant transfer rates that the US charge international countries but don't pay themselves, it's a miracle our prices aren't far higher.

Don't get your hopes up too far though, with the current uncertainty in the broadband market (Rudd's vaporware FTTx proposal) I'm assuming PIPE will be looking at a fast payback period on their investment, which for only $200 million shouldn't take long if they price just under the SXC.

I get the same tracert if I use the same ip address as you have - 203.13.34.40 - what is this ip address?

The ip address for the BigD PR game server is 203.13.37.40 and I can tracert to this ok. However this is not the same as the account server - this is the EA server that holds all the userids and CD keys. See if you can create a new account name.

I was having the Account server refusing connection error in December and found that I could eventually connect if I just kept re-trying at the connect screen. Sometimes this would take 3-5 minutes of re-trying.

No longer having the problem and did not identify a cause.

Psyrus.. So we should lob into the Hyatt making an ass of ourselves and say we are friends of yours..

A reverse DNS lookup identifies it as some random thing... I think he typed the IP wrong...

As for the account server refusing the connection, there's only three things that could cause that imho...

1) EA sucks (most likely)

2) Firewall blocking connection

3) Router Blocking Connection

This used to happen to me now and then, I thought it was because EA acc. server was down,

I do remember a few times when a whole bunch of us couldn't connect so it must have been EA,

And also looking at game monitor the majority of the servers we're almost empty.

But it didn't happen for over three days, I'd say it must be something on your end....but what? sorry I can't help.

Yes it was rivernet, bought out by wix telecomunications.

And if you say thats the problem why have I been playing fine with under 75 ping for the last 7 months?

Ive only had this problem for a week.

Fear is another word for weakness.

Previously Wix and now G-Node (which was my isp) have been acquired by Blitz Telecom. Over the last 3 weeks my in game pings have been getting so bad that in the last 4-5 days I have been unable to play at all due to getting kicked with 300ms + pings.

Lots of problems with all users in this network now - see http://forums.koalatelecom.com.au

Mmmm sounds like Ol' Blitz hasn't provisioned enough backhaul bandwidth, which essentially means they're running an overloaded contention ratio. A bit of explanation here:

It costs ISPs roughly $300 per mbps of bandwidth within AUS, and then another $300 per mbps of bandwidth out/in of AUS... so to provide 24mbps (assuming at least one person syncs at maximum speed) it is costing the ISP in the order of 10-14K per month, excluding interconnect charges, ULL rental, DSLAM space rental etc etc. Since you/me/we are paying <$100 a month, where does the other $9900 come from? Well simply it's made cost effective through contention ratios.

[Pre-P2P era]

Say you have a total customer base sync of 750mbps (about 116 people averaging 6.5mbps) and which would cost roughly $450k. Now, very few people actually use their connection all the time, internet browsing, email and chatting all use a miniscule portion of a 6.5mbps sync speed. Therefore it would be stupid for an ISP to provision 750mbps when at any given point, they figure that aggregate use peaks at around 15-25mbps. So they decide to run a contention ratio of 30:1, which means that at peak usage, chances are everyone will be able to get full speed for their means. But it also means that if for some reason, everyone got on and started downloading at the same time, there'd be only 25mbps to go between 116 people, or about 215kbps each (24kB/s).

[Enter the P2P Era]

So nowadays the internet has evolved, you have youtube which can chew through data and bandwidth like nobody's business, especially since the AU version has opened up. Furthermore, we now have multiple avenues of video streaming, hopefully with VOD coming soon, which should chew between 3.5mbps - 10mbps depending on if you want to watch at a normal bitrate or watch uber-high def TV :). P2P is a massive problem for the ISPs, because now you have [still relatively small proportion] users that download 4GB ISOs and seed them for weeks, which uses a lot of bandwidth, for a lot of time. This means that your peak bandwidth usage is going to rise, which means that either you can run higher contention ratios (50:1, 100:1 etc) or provision more bandwidth. Which do you think the "cheap" ISPs do?

And that's why the ISPs that offer "unlimited", or attract leechers will inevitably crumble... because the behaviour is simple unsustainable.

Further to that point, if bandwidth becomes saturated as in the case of Blitz Telecom [i suspect], pings will become highly erratic. If you wish to test this for yourself, upload something very large to an FTP site, or load up many seeding torrents. Run a ping:

start menu > Run > CMD

"ping www.gamingsa.com -t"

Let it run for say 30 seconds before you start uploading, take note of the average hop. Assuming you're with an ISP that has enough bandwidth, it should be relatively stable at <50ms. Now load up the upstream, and make sure it's maxed out (set the max to like 200kB/s) and then watch your pings. They should increase to about the 250-500ms mark.

I hope this has been informative and helpful to all. My suggestion? Go with the ISPs willing to make the "unpopular" decisions but are dedicated to provide high quality service, and make a profit.

Some unpopular decisions:

  • 2 weeks later...

These solutions all sound logical,i am also having problems connecting to any servers when there are more than 5 people, its weird..i just get :"there is a problem with your connection"and i,m dropped from the server??

I have reinstalled bf2,and pb a couple of times?(and updated) vanilla works just fine unfortunately not PR.

I can join a server with no-one in and then others join right up to capacity-then the map rotates and i,m dropped"there is a problem with your connection"? i,m at my wits end...is there some specific setting in my router that would have a problem with a full server??its about the only thing i havent tried -not too savvy with tech end of router settings..

Any help would be appreciated as i just bought a 40" lcd hd tv and just cant get on to a server with plenty of players in!!

40" lcd hd tv and just cant get on to a server with plenty of players in!!

If you own one of those you can go and pay someone to solve yer problems mate ;):)

OK it sounds more like a program bug more than anything. Especially if it only happens on map loads and only in PR.

Seems a few people are getting this issue.

http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f26-pr-bugs/33135-your-connection-server-has-been-lost.html

Usual reponse in the forum - internet problems or firewall issues. If your connection is fine for BF2 though I sort of doubt it is your connection. Usually if it is firewall related I would usually expect it to occur all the time. Unless bf2 uses some special port during map loads. Maybe try PB reinstall?? Just guessing though.

Edited by DeliciousMaximilian

I just remembered an issue we had here early last year like this that was attributed to EA doing maintainence on the account servers... maybe the same cause now ????
