Posted January 11, 200817 yr Let's start with what I have not. Mobo - Asus A8N-E PCIe GPU - 7600GT CPU - AMD 3800+ x 2 2 gig Corsair DDR600 ram I have a 600watt PSU but forget the brand off the top of my head What I am thinking is just get a very good 8800 512mb and throw that in there and get new stuff along the way. Would that 8800 be bottlenecked enough as to not make it worth it or will I see a big difference? I want to get some of the newer games like Crysis but I also just want new toys to make BF look even more pretty. Thanks all. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. January 11, 200817 yr I think your CPU will probably start to slow you down if you go an 8800GT and crank up Crysis. That's a socket 939 MOBO/CPU, and DDR RAM (as opposed to DDR2), yeah? If so, you'll need to upgrade your whole core system (MOBO+CPU+RAM) in one go unfortunately. No slow upgrade. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
January 11, 200817 yr Author Is the new sockets different? Yes it is a 939 socket and plain ol' DDR ram. So getting the 8800 will not go in there? I don't mind having to get new ram/cpu and mob in one go. I was just hoping for a short term fix.. pooh http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. January 11, 200817 yr An 8800 will go in there no problems. There will be quite a severe bottleneck, but you will also see some noticable improvements. Then you can go Motherboard + RAM + CPU at a later stage.
January 11, 200817 yr yeah a 8800gt will fit alright, but I suspect the 3800x2 will start to bottleneck it in games like crysis that are CPU hungry. Current AMD is socket 'AM2' I think, so you cant get new CPUs for S939. New AM2 mobos are DDR2 RAM. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
January 11, 200817 yr Author Okay thanks for the info guys, time to start saving!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake.
