Posted January 3, 200817 yr Guys I bit the bullet and got myself a logitech extreme pro.. Can anyone give me ideas for a good setup? http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
January 3, 200817 yr well how many buttons you got? i have my main trigger (index finger button) obviously as the primary and the button where your thumb sits as secondary. i also have 5 buttons that sit on top of my j/s (one is the hat button which moves in all directions which i use for changing views) , one cycles through different weapons, one is for voip. and at the base of my j/s i have six buttons, one is for flares and one for afterburner. I could take a picture and run it through photoshop showing all the buttons and all their uses but MEH There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. January 3, 200817 yr Author Yeah I have the hat switch set to change weapons, 4 buttons uptop one thumb button 6 on the deck. Really having trouble controling throttle either fast or drop out of the sky hard to find a sweet spot http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
January 3, 200817 yr Indeedies - 0.7 flying is touchy There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/goodconduct.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/riflemanspecialist.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/infantryofficer.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bullettime.bmp reportplayers@bigdgaming.net
January 3, 200817 yr Firstly, in PR 0.7 you have to understand that no longer can you fly vanilla style in any way. You will now hardly ever be using the "extremes" of your throttle. The range that I've found most useful on my joystick so far is the 20% - 80% range (I have 5 indicator dots on the stick to tell me what % my throttle is, roughly) which allows for roughly the same control as 0.6 If you stray below 20%, your ingame throttle will reach 0%, which causes your rotors to power down a little which essentially means no more downforce, and you'll fall out of the sky. Recovery time for this is about 1.5 seconds, which doesn't sound like long but when you lose all rudder/banking control and start heading towards the ground, unless you're 100+m off the ground, you're probably going to be ploughing your nose right into a ditch. Landing: Much more touchy in 0.7, especially with blackhawks... again, don't go further down from 20% (which is the new in-game 0%) on the stick and you'll be fine. Also, when taking off, have the throttle at about 15-20% on the stick, as any less than this and the helicopters will exhibit some strange takeoff behaviour, like falling backwards for no reason. Setup: Trigger button is for the machine guns on planes, rockets on choppers (Primary fire) Top Left button is for A-A on choppers, bombs on planes (Secondary fire) I have a lower/bottom button near the throttle for afterburner. Buttons at the bottom but far away are for VOIP, T & Q voice commands. Two buttons on the top are for flares and cycle weapons http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. January 3, 200817 yr Author Okay I guess I just have to mess around with the throttle, problem is half the time you can't see your throttle percentage on the HUD. http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
January 3, 200817 yr Question Psyrus, You have your Q + T buttons on your joystick, how do you make a selection within those commo's? with your mouse? There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/goodconduct.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/riflemanspecialist.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/infantryofficer.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bullettime.bmp reportplayers@bigdgaming.net
January 3, 200817 yr Question Psyrus, You have your Q + T buttons on your joystick, how do you make a selection within those commo's? with your mouse? Yeah, it has to be. The mouse is the only thing I can figure out how to make those selections. The placement means that I can hold the button with my "pinky finger" while controlling the stick with my index & thumb [left hand] and quickly put my right hand on the mouse and make the selection Still hit the ground a few times, but I'm getting better :plane: Edit: Spotting will always be beyond my control though, luckily it's been taken out for the most part. To control the stick, hold the button and click spotted is just too much for my brain to handle without crashing http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. January 3, 200817 yr Author I cant even get a chopper to balance http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg

June 30, 200816 yr I just got a joystick and thus far all of my practice hasn't been very fruitful, is there a stage where it just clicks and you get it? O.o Usually I'm a very fast learner [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
June 30, 200816 yr I have an extreme 3d pro aswell. nice joystick. i set mine up to have its throttle relevant to the jet. the thumbstick button i have set for secondary. However I find its too sensitive for firing rockets idividually, ESPECIALLY the AGM-65's/ Laser guided missiles (Thats only in a jet). For the chopper its basically the same. I use the W and S keys for helicopter throttle. Its alot more useful and controllable I find than using the throttle because I rarely change my speed in a jet unless I'm landing or doing un-guided bombing. Again as Psyrus said, and im assuming yours is exactly the same as mine, youll have four top-face buttons, surrounding the directional hat thumb button. I set my afterburners to the pressing forward on my hat button. I have my bottom right button on the top-face set to flares, the one next to it on the bottom left is set to weapon changing as I tend to do that alot. Again the thumbstick button where your thumb *should* fit into (im hoping your fingers arnt dis-figured or anything) I put mine as my secondary. My second-secondary fire button is on the top left of the top-face. Just makes it easier to fire individual rockets as stated before. My trigger is of course main fire button. So thats hydras and guns. Do everything yourself though and get a feel for it. BIGGEST TIP though is try and use the W and S keys for the chopper throttle, A and D keys for turning to the left and to the right. using the base keys on the joystick for anything (that is the 6 buttons on the left, below the joystick) is very cumbersome IMO. June 30, 200816 yr Thanks Ryza, my main problem, however, is flight. Especially in the choppers they seem to either react far too much sometimes, and not nearly enough other times. I often get into a sort of see-saw when I try to turn by rolling to one side (when i try to correct it, it sometimes gets worse and worse) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
June 30, 200816 yr Did you get the drivers for the 3d pro? If you didnt get them im sure you can download them. it just lets you configure it, making it more or less sensitive to ya liking. Either that or you WILL get the hang of it. Its not something you can be 'told' how to fly. You just have to continue flying, purposely crashing/getting yourself into a 'crash' situation and try and pull yourself out of it. Itll help you get the hang of flying. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
June 30, 200816 yr Author Yeah it becomes easier with practice, check the N/A section for Psyrus' server and the training map link to get access to all the air asset action you need http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
June 30, 200816 yr For those new to joysticks: Jet take-offs and flying is easy Landing is not (for most people) Chopper novices: - Small movements are your friend, you need to get a feel for each chopper, as they're all unique, especially comparing the attack, transport & LBs - Overcorrecting is generally the #1 downfall of joystick newbies IMO, you have to realize there's a delay between what you do on the stick and where the chopper is going to go, due to the lift/directional "thrust" (naturally want to go where the rotors are pointed) - Don't expect to be "good" at it in any short amount of time, to get "competent" is easy... good is another story Lots of practice on my training server will do you wonders. - My advice is to train in the littlebirds, and then the rest of the choppers will feel cumbersome and easy to control (IMO). http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. June 30, 200816 yr I actually went from stick to mouse and keyboard for the choppers - I find the mouse provides much more precise control. Still use the stick for jets, though not on pubs - 2 out of 3 landings result in a smoking wreckage or a flung pilot to prevent the above. June 30, 200816 yr I've always wondered if theres a way to configure 'mouse look' into the joy stick. So when ya hold down ctrl, ya can just look around with joy instead of mouse...possible? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/Frenzal/ANZ.png
July 1, 200816 yr thank you, especially for the 'small movements' tip, i'm getting the hang of it more and more now [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
