Theres another really good Stalingrad movie...I think its called..."Stalingrad"

They start out on the train heading for Stalingrad...all cocky etc, then they end up crawling back thru the winter snow,half/nearly dead and not so cocky....

Great movie...not sure if I have the right name...

Hey, I remember Red Dawn, enjoyed it and has stuck in my memory - could not remember the name but remember the plot and the WOLVERINES.

Haven't seen Enemy at the Gates yet..

Stalingrad is a 1993 film by Joseph Vilsmaier, similar to Apocalypse Now and Platoon in its approach to depicting the horrors of war in a realistic and unromanticized fashion.

The movie follows a platoon of German Heer soldiers as they are transferred from Italy and their recent experiences in North Africa, to Russia and ultimately find themselves unwilling participants in the Battle of Stalingrad.

The Odd Angry Shot...

"This is the most well constructed wanking machine I’ve ever seen!"

http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png

I've seen The Odd Angry Shot somewhere in the vicinity of 70 times.

Yep, 70!

It became a tradition back in the 80's that we would play the film everytime we were out in the bush (on a portable 35mm projector with genny mind you) and it became the Regiment's unofficial mascot. You got bonus points if you could go through an entire day using only the lines from the movie. Double bonus if you could do it to someone who hadn't seen the movie and didn't twig to what was going on.

Awesome movie, if you haven't seen it then go out immediately and find it! It is now on DVD too...

Another nomination from me is "Proof of Life" with Russel Crowe and Meg I'm-a-bitch-Ryan. The movie was pretty crap overall and I *loathe* Meg Ryan but the combat scenes at the end are done very, very well.

+1 to that, Proof of Life would have been sooo much better without her, but i think Rus was porking her at the time, so not surprising that she got the part. Anyway, that extraction at the end did kick ass.

Although it's not a war film, another movie that kicked ass was Man on Fire with Denzel Washington.

http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0328107/man-on-fire.jpg

It's not wall to wall action, so don't get on my case about that, it just a very well told story with Denzel f***ing up some Mexicans for the 2nd half. even had a tear in my eye at the end. check it out if you get the chance.

DO NOT get out home of the brave. It is so **** it's not funny. Looks like whoever handled the military side of things couldnt be bothered to pull their thumbs out of their arses so it looks really unauthentic. Jessica Biel and Samuel L. Jackson give good performances as usual, but 50 cent is just sh!t, seriously. I thought he did a rather good job in his biopic movie get rich or die trying, but he just really can't act. The only good part of this film is where I was tripping out from boredom and imagining Samuel L jackson as the medic screaming "BREATH B!TCH BREATH!" in entertainingly loud tone and wild eyes that make his trademark.

As for war movies, I can only recommend ones that have sticked in my mind to this time, so stuff like Apocalypse now, Full Metal Jacket and most of all *Platoon* <--- probably the best vietnam war film IMO. Black Hawk Down is good, Jarhead is really good if you want to see what happened to marines who had been put through hell in training, then only to come to war to see nothing but sand and be bored crapless.

However if realistic combat sequences are what you're looking for, I can recommend HEAT (robert de niro, al pacino, val kilmer) , collateral (the tom cruise and jamie foxx one, not the Arnie one) and the new miami vice. All these have fantasic acting in them and are directed by a guy who for some reason puts his actors through a tactical training course (with the exception of other films he's directed like Ali). But most of all, with michael mann directed films, you know you're going to get top notch acting, a good script, beautiful visuals and overall a good film.

Actually scooped two of the ones that stick in my mind from those films off youtube:

HEAT bank/downtown shootout scene:

Collateral , hitman (tom cruise) owns two punks :

yeaaa booooy.

Pathfinder - not really a war movie - is about the vikings slaughtering people - and there is some really good slaughtering in this movie. the acting is ok.:paladin:

300 (or was that 3000?) the spartan movie - again for the killing but mostly for the perv factor

Condemed - with ice cold steve austin and the guy from lock stock and two smoking barrels vince someone.

it is a new release and the plot is reality tv surviour style but for killers and they have to kill each other off to win and get freedom - it won't win any awards for the acting or wonderful plot but the fighting is cool and vince is a funny f***er and a total nutter and the little asain guy is a crackup.

actually none of these are really war movies but there is a link if you look.

The Odd Angry Shot... I got it and have to watch it..very soon. tonight :)

If you are young and have not seen it, see Platoon a 1986 Vietnam War film written and directed by Oliver Stone and starring Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, Forest Whitaker, Kevin Dillon, Keith David, John C. McGinley and Johnny Depp. The story is drawn from Stone's experiences as an Army combat infantryman in Vietnam and was written by him upon his return as a counter to the vision of the war portrayed in John Wayne's The Green Berets. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1986.

All Quiet on the Western Front (Army), Das Boot (Navy), Dark Blue World (Air)

I would reiterate that it's mere coincidence these are non-english (and thus non-US) films. They're just the best IMO.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

AintWarHell(hehe)

I just watched All Quiet on the Western Front (1930 film)

good film for any one thinking of joining a war near you :)

http://image.allmusic.com/00/adg/cov200/drt000/t019/t01962frmmv.jpg

Plot Synopsis

One of the most powerful anti-war statements ever put on film, this gut-wrenching story concerns a group of friends who join the Army during World War I and are assigned to the Western Front, where their fiery patriotism is quickly turned to horror and misery by the harsh realities of combat.

Due to its anti-war and perceived anti-German messages, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party banned the film from Germany in the 1930s and early 1940s. During its brief run in German cinemas in the early 1930s, the Nazis disrupted the viewings by releasing rats in the theaters. The ban wasn't lifted until the 1960s. Also, between the period of 1928 to 1941 this was one of many films to be banned in Australia by the Chief Censor Creswell O'Reilly.

Im shocked this hasn't been mentioned but:

LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA

http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamahons.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/aerialservice.bmp

I second (or was that third?) Full Metal jacket, best Drill Sarge EVER!

Platoon is great too.

Apocalypse Now: Kinda slowish, but good.

Mark of Cain was great, saw that earlier in the year.

Who can forget Saving Private Ryan, although its a little wankery-cinematic to be considered a true portrayal.

Black Hawk Down is a good one too, some tacticool infantry stuff in there.

If you have the time, or are so inclined, epic WW2 movies like A Bridge Too Far are great, if a little long (3hrs+)

Steer clear of anything with Chuck Norris though. Deltas do NOT dual wield M16's...

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Just re-watched the classic "Hell in the Pacific" with Lee Marvin. I think the entire dialogue of the movie is about 10 words but simply brilliant nonetheless...
