Well, after years of playing quite happily in BF2, I recently had my video settings reset and I'll be damned if I can remember how they were. Quite frankly, its ruining my day!

Any suggestions on how to setup your video settings to suit the strength of your video card?

What video card have you got?

What Monitor do you have?

How much RAM do you have?

Those three questions will give you the answer to your settings :)

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB

Monitor: 1920 x 1200 LCD

RAM: 1GB

OS: XP Home

I've played around with the settings tonight, which are currently are 1920 x 1200, Everything LOW, with MEDIUM settings on Geometry, Texture, Lighting and View Distance set to 100%.

I don't know anything about ATI but besides that........

Geometry and view distance should always be on high as vehicles/enemies/friendlies will show up sooner rather than later.

Personally I would keep dynamic light and shadows preferably off or on low as they are the biggest drain on your graphics card and/or cpu

AA I would leave off as it is also a big drain

As for the rest of your settings I would start up high and try and play,

if it's no good (too laggy) turn a setting down and try playing again,

So on and so forth until you get the eye candy your looking for and also the performance.

EDIT--> ok so I've got an Nvidia 7600gt and MY settings are on:

1280x1024

terr = med

eff = high

geo = high

text = high

light = med

dyn shad = off

dyn light = off

aa = off

text filt = high

view scale = 100%

Like I say I have no idea about ATI so I have no idea how my Nvidia would relate to your card

But I hope this helps.

EDIT on EDIT--> my god man - get yourself another gb of ram NOW!!!! :p

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Wow, firstly may I say I'm surprised you can play PR with that computer :)

Secondly, I'm even more amazed that you can play PR at more than LOW, with minimum draw distance with that computer :)

You planning an upgrade in the near future?

So your playing on a laptop...:fans:

First drop your res down. :artist:

way way down:jawdrop:

For an lcd screen some multiple of your native res (1920 / 1200) is best for immage quality.

ie for you (2/3) 1280 / 800 will give least issues (a straight 1/2 native res of 960 / 600 would actually give you the clearest image with no interpolation by the screen but thats a crap res to play at)

128 vram isnt a lot so turn textures down to med at least

also with widescrean you will need to edit your desktop shortcut to include it

Mine is "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1360 +szy 768

make sure yours has " +widescreen"

and the +szx/y stuff sets your res to what you like not what bf2 engine gives by default "+szx 1360 +szy 768" but change the res(1360 / 768) to what you will be playing at (1280 / 800).

Because ati mobility chips steal some system ram, part of your 1gig is already being partially used up. Definatly try and get some more ram (get a paper round or auction of one of your kids if you have any) it will make the single biggest improvement in "chuggyness.tm" of anything you will do for the bf2 engine .

Most laptops will take up to 2 "sodims" of up to 1 gig each.

yours probably has 2 x 512meg. To add more youll need a new pair.

http://www.msy.com.au (worlds worst commercial webpage ) is a cheap option or look on http://www.staticice.com.au.

I found some 1 gig sodims (in about 12 seconds)for $39 at http://www.pccasegear.com/prod5783.htm. So under $100 delivered for 2 gig of good ram for your lappy. :kiss:

You will need to check what type ram your laptop has but

(anyone please step in and correct me if im wrong) most recent ones use 200-pin SO-DIMM.

The most 1337 ram wise you can get is actually 3 gig (1 x 1gig sodim + 1x 2gig sodim if your lappy can do that) using window xp.

Vista can be different if its the 64 bit version as it can use more than 3gig effectivly but NOBODY would be stupids enough to play games on a vista system.

The manafacturs website will have the detail for you model.

Hope that helps...:guitar:

Oh and get "fraps" to get an idea of your current frame rate before you try any changes so you know if its working much.

:hi:

Or hit the ~ key and type renderer.drawfps 01 then hit enter (press ~ again to get rid of the console) and bf2 will give you your fps up in the left hand top corner.
