Hey guys, I need your help. My American-Samoan lawyer has jacked my car and I've lost my case full of fun, so I need you to help me create a new one.

Basically I'm looking to get a new compy and want to spend around $1500 odd dollars. Nothing too fancy obviously but it has to be able to run PR, goddammit!

I've lost touch with the latest and greatest computer tech out there, so I would appreciate any and all suggestions for my new box.

Full box, with LCD ect?. Also can you build yourself?, and when you buy do you want customer service?.

Edit:

From MSY build yourself no O/S(add $70 for them to build it and add $139/107 for either Vista Home or XP Home if you need an OS)

CPU:Intel C2D E6750 $227

RAM:2x1Gb 667 Kingston $53

Mobo: P35-DS3 $131

GFX:512MB 8800GT Generic $366(No point in getting a brand name since they are all maybe by Nvidia, unless you want the bundled stuff the brand name comes with. ie. Some sort of game)

HDD:Seagate 320Gb SATA $105

DVD-RW:OEM Pioneer 215BK DVD-RW $38

CASE:Antec NSK6580(430) $147 or a Thermaltake Soprano(430w) $125 or a Cooler Master CAC-T05(430w) $108

KEYBOARD/MOUSE:OEM Logitech Internet 350 Desktop $25

SPEAKER:Logitech X230 2.1 $54

MONITOR:22" Asus ASUS VW222U $335

$1481 with the Antec case

May I suggest the Intel C2D E2160 instead of the E6750? Reason being is that it's only $95 or so and you can easily over-clock it to 3.6GHz on air cooling giving you the same performance for 1/3rd the cost (absolutely amazing how far that thing goes)

God damn black people can run fast.

Less cache, and its not guaranteed that you will reach 3.6 (though probably will).

Also I would wait till the end of January before even contemplating what you're going to go with, new CPU's will be released hopefully at the end of January, possibly sooner (Q9300 at Q6600 prices....and a hell of a lot more performance).

Yeah what mobius said. X38 mobos are still over $200, P35 are good.

8800gt graphics card is where its at. Consider a 500gb HDD and/or spending more on your keyboard/mouse/monitor (interface, which is alway money well spent IMO).

The PC i listed above is good but in Jan/Feb awhole new range of PC parts are coming(should drop the price of current hardware down or you can get the newer parts :) ).

By then the 45nm CPUs should be out(Faster,Cooler and use less energy)

The 8800's should be cheaper(8800GT should be $300~ with the 8800GTS around $400~)

Probably should have mentioned that I meant this as a stop-gap until new CPUs come out. Its only $95 and you could easily on-sell it

Well the 9000 series Intel CPU's have been delayed and we'll only be getting C2D 8000 series in January.

So I'd either get an E6750 now (after the 8000 release in Jan) and OC the crap out of it until the new quads are released. Or just grab an 8000 series when they launch.

Definitely get a 8800GT 512mb, it's cheaper then the GTS and outperforms the larger 640mb GTS and even in some rare cases, the GTX.

The **** thing is all this cool stuff will be outdated very quickly as usual.

Anyone heard about Dx 11 (-.-) and now frigging windows vienna ('-.-) ? Seriously it's ridiculous, they bring out one major overhaul (dx10/vista) now they wanna throw another one into the fray.

Planning, dev will take a LONG time. Thats normal.

Its just you havent heard about fords new model being made 6months after release of the xr8. Thats because they didnt tell you. But dont worry, they are only throwing around ideas, planning, researching testing, producing then re- researching, testing and producing. and over again. And hello a new car is out, maybe its time to update my xr8 that is now 5 years old.

See.. its simple. :guitar:

Fear is another word for weakness.
