Japanese whaling has gone on for long enough,

This barbaric practice of killing (endangered) whales for supposed "scientific purposes" by the Japanese literally makes me sick to think about.

Not only do they kill these friendly (endangered) whales in a horrific way that has whales bleeding to death out in the ocean while they pull them in with a giant harpoon,

They come to OUR AUSTRALIAN WHALE SANCTUARY to do it.

The previous australian government found this issue too hard to deal with

and had a public response to the issue of "not beneficial to persue"

The Japanese government needs pressure put on them to stop this disgusting whaling practice and you can help.

Re: Sign the petition and help save the whales.

Rudd may be using Australian assets to monitor their "research"

I think he may be the start of a solution

and why cant the Japanese just eat animals we have to many of, like foxes, wild dogs and cats... not that hard

Re: Sign the petition and help save the whales.

Also a very disturbing fact is that over 70% of Japanese people don't agree that whaling is right.

On top of that over 500 pounds of (endangered) whale meat is frozen every year because people just don't want it.

Re: Sign the petition and help save the whales.

I also don't like it. The whales have recovered though and they are no longer endangered but it will not take long at 1000 whales a year to push them to the brink yet again.

I'm not a greenie but this practice also makes me sick and very pissed off. I'm off the mind that some crazy nutjob enviro types will sink the bastard. Kill enough people and eventually they will stop.

I might not have such an issue if it wasn't for the fact that these animals are very intelligent. What a painful and frightening way to die and every wail in the area will hear it die. Sound carries so far.....

Whale numbers have recovered 'somewhat'

But they are still endangered.

That is why they are on the "endangered" list.

Which one specifically? The Mink or whatever it's called is no longer on the list.

Humpback whales are most certainly on the endangered list,

as for Minky whales I'm not sure.

But whatever!!! Doesn't make it right!!!

BigD defense force FTW!

Get some inside info from Japan and pwn some whaling boats on our weekends off (when not playing PR, of course). All we need is someone in the army reserves to funnel us some arms.

Yeah I read that this morning and thought of Blacky

Re: Sign the petition and help save the whales.

I still think the Australian government should load out some patrol boats with 5" or 37mm guns and just sink the buggers. Its one thing to go for minky whales (at that rate, they'll be gone pretty quick) but apparently they're going for humpbacks this year

Re: Sign the petition and help save the whales.

Received this from Greenpeace today:

Thank you for taking time to sign the Daily Telegraph whales petition. We now have over 50,000 signatures – what a result!

Your action sends a strong message to the Japanese opposition party that we want them to help end the whaling program supported by the current Japanese government.

Meanwhile, the Greenpeace ship, Esperanza, is on its way to find the Japanese whalers hunting in the Southern Ocean.

When our activists find them the work really begins. Using peaceful direct action, our activists will put themselves in the line of fire to make things very difficult for the whalers.

Read crew updates from the Esperanza

The Japanese fleet aims to slaughter 1000 whales in the name of ‘scientific research’, including 50 endangered fin whales.

The whalers’ quota is significantly increased this year and we aim to defend many more whales. The ship and crew will work as long as they are able to.

Thank you for your generous support of the campaign. We’ll keep you up to date as the the story unfolds.

Together we can save the whales!

The Greenpeace whales team

Re: Sign the petition and help save the whales.

unfortunately the surveillance boat being sent is going unarmed :(

maybe greenpeace have weapons we dont know about yet... and hopefully the whaling boat sinks, they dont build another one and we can live happily again.

or maybe... some australian will get shot with the harpoon and it will be seen as an act of war... then it gets interesting...

The P&O ship you mean?

Its got some big ass guns on it for a 'civilian contracted' ship.

Are they not taking ammunition just incase say a stray polar bear tries to climb onboard?? :p:P

Re: Sign the petition and help save the whales.

The guns(.50 cal) are being stowed away in the bottom of the ship :(

whether they bring ammo or not is another question... but maybe they have guns which arent part of the ship ;)

who knows until it gets there and then the nissan maru goes missing in action with no survivors

and I love how the US is taking credit for the humpback decision...
