Anyone know of a good converter for converting .avi to a suitable format to create dvds (ie converting an avi to a file that can be burnt to dvd and will play on a regular dvd player)?

Have tried nero, it doesnt seem to like it (threw a dummy spit 3 seperate times) and a program called avi2dvd, which took 3 hours to do a 1/2hour program and cut off the last 7 minutes.

Ulead video studio seams pretty stable but it takes ages, as with most other apps, i used it once, made the DVD fine and you can build menu's etc if you could be bothered aswell. My cheap as DVD player (was under $40) plays xvid/divx fine so i can burn all my movies to plain CD

DivX dvd player! :p

What he said ^^^ lol

Fear is another word for weakness.

divX player any good? how long to convert?

Other option is to go to dick smiths and get a Hicon dvd player about $50 and it plays straight avi files so you can throw a heap on a dvd and save time, space & doh!

Only thing is they're 2 channel.

yeah but if your converting from divx/xvid to DVD your probably going from 2 channel anyway. i've never needed to convert anything for my Divx DVD player just gotta make sure the filename ends in .mpg, .avi not mp4 as it doesnt search the CD/DVD for those. Also i can play divx/xvid straight from my PC's HDD on my XBOX

Edit: just checked my DVD player its the "Hicon" GruAnch was talking bout

convertxtodvd took about an hour to do an hours worth of program, but spat the dummy at the recording stage.

Tried using the converted data by burning to dvd with another program - still no good.

Will try tmpgenc, if that doesnt work Im going to a) shoot my dvd burner then b) buy one of those dvd players...lol.....
