Posted September 22, 200717 yr For some reason when I try to join a GSA server PR crashes as soon as the map is loaded and the 'Join Game' button appears. I tried a few other servers and the game loads fine. Any ideas? Aresnik [WC] Leiutenant Braaaaaaaarp!
September 22, 200717 yr I had something similar, re-updated PB and it now works fine. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
September 22, 200717 yr Author It seems to have worked. Thanks. Aresnik [WC] Leiutenant Braaaaaaaarp!
September 23, 200717 yr So I had my stupid PB issue again, where BF2 stops when I hit enter server, before the map loadup screen. It works OK one night, but then crashes the next. Grrrrrrr Worked out it is my AV application (Kaspersky (?)) not liking the registry searching/changing bit of PB, and not my firewall. Seems OK again now... *crosses fingers* Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
September 24, 200717 yr I have had a problem lately : MD5Tool Mismatch Error. (kicked) After googling, one suggestion was to return my bf2.exe folder back to it's original name (was recommended in a "reduce lag guide" to change it) SEEMS to have fixed the prob *crosses fingures* Although it's strange, I was getting the error before I did the "reduce lag" thingo. ??? September 24, 200717 yr Strange happenings in PR these days. Last night I started playing on Kashan with little or no problems. The next map is Mestia and all of a sudden my frame rate goes to hell. It was basically unplayable but I stuck around to support the troops. Ejod was up next and the fps dropped even lower. I couldn't aim, but to top it all off I had great difficulty using my mouse wheel to switch between my kit items. Its like some unseen force is trying to either drive me away from PR or force me to invest in more ram. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
September 24, 200717 yr need 2gb IMO. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
September 24, 200717 yr The 1gig that I have was fine until the approximate time of the PB update. Getting more RAM is the most obvious option if I want to keep playing but I am probably the biggest tight-arse about money. I probably wouldn't even have a mic now if my brother hadn't given me his hand-me-down. The fact that the lag comes and goes on different maps and on different days also makes me question whether upgrading will fix the problem. Mestia was unplayable last night but a few nights ago it was running pretty smoothly. I will be on again tonight to see if there is any change. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
September 24, 200717 yr Need 2gb ram, also need to keep your comp ship shape, you seem to be the only one having these probs rogue so I would say it's either your ISP or computer. 1. Have you re-formated lately? 2. Do you defrag and clean up your computer OFTEN? 3. Do you have lots of space on your HDD? 4. Have you checked your internet speed? ie http://www.speedtest.net 5. What have you changed since you started having these probs? There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. September 24, 200717 yr 1. Haven't formated my harddrive in the 2 or so years I've had it. My brother knows how but I'm pretty dense when it comes to these things. 2. Did a defrag and clean-up after the problems started without much improvement. 3. I have plenty of space left on the HDD, well over 60% 4. Did a test just then from Melbourne to Adelaide I got 16ping with 9580kbs download and 124kbs upload. Not sure if the upload speed is bad. 5. Downloaded the Bioshock and Transformers demos around the time the problem started which also coinsided with the PB update apparently. Assuming that the PB update was an issue I manually updated it and have been using the "pb_sleep 500" command for the last week or so. Like I said I have been getting varying levels of lag in both severity and longevity with last night's second and third maps being the worst ever. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
September 24, 200717 yr Format time!!!!! BTW you should be defragging and cleaning your comp about once a week. Also, have you cleaned out your C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache ???? Delete anything that's "inside" the cache folder, You should do this any time you change your video settings...otherwise you will get lag!!! Edited September 24, 200717 yr by cm. There he goes. September 24, 200717 yr bf2cleaner http://users.on.net/~mperrin/images/les_mis_kindros.png You're all wrong, and I am always right, and the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be. That is all! Va Fan Culo
September 24, 200717 yr The only time I get symptoms like that (games going fine, loads next map, bad performance real laggy, next map, even worse) is when I have bf2cc open in the background and the map change puts my cpu at 100% which lags out bf2. The fix is to close bf2cc, so maybe a background task is chewing up resources? http://www.ancientdev.com/images/devsig.png

September 25, 200717 yr Tried the cache clean out but apart from showing that optimization message during the loading screen I still had a chunky frame rate. Started off in the APC on Ejod and was a getting a relatively poor frame rate. Not so bad when I was in the tank during my second life but the lag was obvious once I started moving around on foot. Will try disabling my outlook.exe processes before my next game and see if that improves anything since they seem to eat their fair share of memory. Will look into bf2 cleaner and possibly formating if I don't see any improvement over the next few weeks. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
September 25, 200717 yr Have you noticed any problems like lag with any of your other games? Specifically any other online games if you play them.
September 25, 200717 yr The only other online game I've played recently was the Quake Wars demo. Had really bad performance there too until I reinstalled without Punkbuster, then it ran super smooth. Even on BF2 single player I noticed a slight amount of lag that wasn't there previously. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
September 25, 200717 yr Have you checked for adware/spyware????.--"prevx " and "ccleaner".are good ones (probably the ram but...) http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif
September 25, 200717 yr Hey Rouge what ram are you running amt? Let us know, i might have some spare sticks hanging around i can get to you. Free of course!

If you have a dual core AMD CPU you may want to find the dual core "optimizer". http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html also is a good optimisation guide for Bf2. nedlands1 [WC] Specialist (Combat Engineer) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/52/US_Army_E-4_SPC.svg/50px-US_Army_E-4_SPC.svg.png [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
September 26, 200717 yr Appreciate the offer, Evil. I have Dual Channel DDR2 667. At bahlye, nope I haven't checked but I know I should. At nedlands, I've got an intel dual core. I am extremely grateful for everyone's advice but I have to admit that this lag is a bit of a blessing in disquise. Its made me realise how addicted I am and that I spend way too much time playing. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
September 27, 200717 yr you could do what i do and reduce PB back to 1.1 that comes with the cd uninstall/modify/ unselect PB and then go install after that go to the PB folder in the bf2 folder and delete everything inside it and back and install PB again and presto you got PB v 1.1 but you will need a PB program called pbsvc.exe that will uninstall the PB update idiots are hardcoded
September 28, 200717 yr I would hazard a guess that you may have gotten some sort of nasty from the wastelands of the internet. You could try spybot and ad-aware both are free and could fix the problem. Other than that a re-format sounds like the best option as long as you know what you are doing. Sure it is a pain in the ass but it is the only way to be sure you get rid of whatever is causing the problem. Plus after 2 years you will be surprised how much faster it will run on a clean install.
