Posted September 20, 200717 yr Al Basrah map strategy: After two rounds on Al Basrah last night I have come up with a basic strategy that is important if you want to win the map and have a good fight. Firstly and most important for either side is the absolute need to have and control the Outpost. If the British hold and control the Outpost they pretty much have the full time limit at their leasure to search the map even with no intel. For the Insurgents if you can hold the outpost the ticket bleed is so fast the map will be over in 15 minutes flat. That said if you see the Outpost go down and you are British if you are not dropping whatever you are doing that you think is more important you are wrong. If they have hit the Outpost in force there is no way one squad alone will reaquire it. One squad needs to be a dedicated defense and should have at least a jeep, two would be better. The jeeps are needed so you can search the immediate areas for caches while everyone else is in the city. No point in having 6 guys just sitting around being useless. Have 3 guys in each jeep and if you get in trouble or see trouble heading to the outpost call your squadies and race to the fight. If when you get there the enemy is already on the flag throw in smoke so they can't see outside the area they've set up their tents. I would suggest that as one car will be there first park it outside and use the box of grenades you have to nade spam the crap out of them while you wait for the other jeep. Also, let the rest of the team know that they need to be ready to start running to the outpost if the attack is a large one. If it is a large one keep spamming grenades and hope that reinforcements arrive quickly. Once you have killed all the enemy make sure it's clear and then everyone can go again while the D squad gets back in the jeeps and patrols for rallys etc in the area. Once again if the outpost falls every single person needs to haul ass back there and get it back. By doing this we where able to hold out for a win with only 80 tickets left where as the first round we lost in 10 or 15 minutes as no one fell back to retake control. For the Insurgents, screw the weapons caches and attack the outpost en masse. If you have everyone there and can get in a good defensive position the map is yours. Try to limit how many civilians you have as you don't really need them to attack with rocks and without them it will force the British to search the map the hard way. Again, use nade spam to flush out the entrenched defenders. Don't think of this as cheap as a real soldier with a box of grenades would do the same, you don't win wars by fighting fair and dieing for your country. Use every dirty trick up your sleave to stay alive and kill the enemy. Another point on those that still don't feel they need to fall back. If you where 5 minutes from your Outpost in the real armed forces and your HQ came under a concentrated attack do you not think you would be recalled? Picture it like a cop getting shot and you don't rush to the all units respond call as that's what you've just done. A tip for looking for locating caches is to use the helicopter to quickly locate the obvious ones and have an engy drop a charge out the side. Works like a charm and when we found one this way it took a lot of nades to do what an engineer could have done in seconds. Long story short, hold the Outpost at all costs FTW. September 20, 200717 yr Good Call on that Jumper we won the last round last night because of the outpost defense gave us time to search for the cache's ---- http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/4300/usarmyltgf2.gif http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp
September 20, 200717 yr Author Yeah and the aggresive patrols as apposed to just waiting allowed as to catch most of the attacks before they even got inside the walls. Using an APC for that was also fanatastic plus those buggers are pretty quick! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. September 20, 200717 yr and very quiet with the new patch ---- http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/4300/usarmyltgf2.gif http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp
September 20, 200717 yr too quiet IMO. I don't know what the real thing sounds like but it just doesn't sound right from the inside. I think the exterior noise is still the same though. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
September 20, 200717 yr You're probably lucky to hear anything inside one of those clanging buckets'o'bolts. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
September 20, 200717 yr Author Actually armour is not as loud as you might think. The tracks have rubber pads on them and what you actually hear is engine noise but a big V12 Turbine is not quiet. Inside with no ear protection is another story. September 20, 200717 yr They have improved armour a fair bit my older bro is in the US Reservers and is a Tanker and the are as quiet inside as they are in game. But remember that they also make it so you don't hear that engineer or SF sneaking up to plant that C4 or Slam ---- http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/4300/usarmyltgf2.gif http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp
September 28, 200717 yr Man the guy in the APC north of the city destroyed us last night in 64p. I took 4 shots at 'em with the stupid inaccurate insurgent L-AT. Allah was not with me... More frustrating was that some of the new players threw away our spawn cars that were otherwise hidden well. I'm sure many also didnt realise the deal with intel points and being knifed as a civvy either. I guess it will take a while more to get most people 'in the know'. With this new game type. September 28, 200717 yr I find the motorbikes as the best anti-APC tool. Two sticks of C4 and it will take down anything. Hard as hell to hit as well, but hit one little post and BOOM! Was having a fun time today with my motorbike. Two APC's, countless jeeps and lots of construction workers(Building Commander assets). Minister Of Silly Walks - One step at a time.
