Razor,

Yes - I recently evaluated Joomla against a range of other options in the quest to move one of my clients from their current Zope / Plone platform. Joomla was pretty good and was my preferred option as it seemed to be pretty stable and was widely supported. It also had good GIS integration capabilities.

In the end we didn't go down that path since most of the medium sized development houses are moving towards their own "in house" CMS solutions in an attempt to lock in their clients.

What is the application base?

I had a look but found it a little too extensive for the small projects I work with.

While I have never personally used it, it has been recommended to me in the past as an easy to use and easy to manage product.

i had a look and it is good for a corporate system. for clans you want something that has more addons/ hacks etc that clan people will want to use.

Look at phpnuke, dragonfly cms, vbulletin +vba (this site), postnuke.

they are the ones that have the most clan orientate additions and are still very good and stable CMS systems.

Spent a lot of time looking at them after the first change we attempted.
