My old desktop mic just died on me. so i ran down to to shop to get a new one a microsoft LX-3000. Not thinking that i just got a nice new sound card and this new one is a USB. am i screwed? or is there a way to set it up to take advantage of my card?

Your screwed. USB mics use their own integrated soundcard, and there is no way to make it use the other one. Take it back if you can.

Just had my headset die (3yo boy-related accident).

 

Bought a Plantronics Audio 370 (3.5mm jacks) and I'm v.pleased.

 

Although if people are going to see you using them be prepared to fend off some fashion-related criticism that you look like you could receive FM on those things :)
