Posted May 29, 20168 yr Hi Guys, (Shout out to all my bD and N/A homies) Been lurking for a looooong time and living in China for the past couple of years but back in Aus now and I hear Squad is the new PR Question: can my PC cope with Squad or am I up for a hardware upgrade? I'm running a Pentium 3420 @ 3.2GHz with 8GB of RAM and Windows 10. GPU is a fairly lame GEForce GT 610 with 1GB RAM. This used to rock PR but I suspect is pretty dated now. Before I drop the cash via Steam on Squad can anyone tell me if this will run? Marcus http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp
May 29, 20168 yr System requirements (as per Squad on Steam) Minimum: OS: Windows 7 SP1 (x64) Processor: 2.4 GHz Dual-Core 64-bit CPU Memory: 4 GB RAM Graphics: DX11 Compatible GPU with 2 GB VRAM DirectX: Version 11 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 10 GB available space Recommended: OS: Windows 7 SP1 (x64), Windows 8 (x64), Windows 10 (x64) Processor: 3 GHz Quad-Core 64-bit CPU Memory: 6 GB RAM Graphics: DX12 Compatible GPU with 3 GB VRAM DirectX: Version 12 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 12 GB available space [*]Its a 'maybe' that it will "run" on your system. A quadcore CPU would be ideal, 16gb of ram and to be honest a vid card of say Nvidia 9XX series. Your card is only 1gb and wont cut the mustard to meet min specs (to buffer/cache textures ect) To note at the moment with the game in its "unoptimised" form it is heavily CPU dependant. http://i.imgur.com/NdmsWeV.gif
May 29, 20168 yr oh.. and atm squad is definately the new PR (made by some PR devs on the UE4 engine). It just doesnt have the vehicles/logistics atm <eventually they will be implemented> So Squad is an infantry based form of PR with VERY.. VERY pretty graphics http://i.imgur.com/NdmsWeV.gif
May 30, 20168 yr Author So I think my CPU is definitely in line for an upgrade along with my GPU. GPU is pretty straightforward - probably a 3GB 960 variant. CPU I am limited to 1150 socket beasties unless I want to swap out my Mobo and RAM and I really don't. So: on a budget, I can get an i3 4170 3.7GHz dual core for $160 or an i5 4460 quad core 3.2Ghz for $260. How critical are the extra 2 cores, anyone know? The i3 would seem to be clock faster by a good margin but not sure how critical that is. http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp
May 30, 20168 yr I've heard reports of i3's struggling, i'd investigate that further. Maybe check the squad forums or see if anyone around is running one with success. The game is poorly optomised, AMD (CPU's in particular) really, really suffers when playing squad, they continue to try and improve it but it still sucks. Squad is still a long way from PR, but it's moving at a somewhat promising pace. I'd hate to see you upgrade your entire rig only to be disappointed.
May 30, 20168 yr Games these days will definitely benefit from 4 cores instead of 2. i5 is a good choice for a budget, the GTX 960 is a good budget card however if you wait for the new pascal range to hit and sell hopefully the prices will drop. unfortunately squad is in an optimized mess atm so hopefully a few more months and a few more patches (aka bloody vehicles) will allow lower end cards to run fairly smooth. just my 2 cents! i7 8700k OC 5ghz - RTX2080- 16GB RAM
June 3, 20168 yr Author well it looks like i3 3.7GHz and GTX 950 along with 16GB RAM is plenty enough to play, at least on the crappy 1680 x 1050 max res monitor I have! http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp
June 3, 20168 yr good to see you again Bammo , I am running low specs, as per usual, I did use to run squad on a nvidia 9500 gt , but got a GTX 750ti now. and you made me put my face on here , much respect wild man http://www.soshified.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rambo.gif http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff136/paulwar_photos/735c4e74-282e-49b6-99c3-6c443f8c759f.jpg MSI970A Gaming Pro Carbon - AMD FX-8350 - 12GBytes - GTX 750 Ti 2GBytes
June 3, 20168 yr well it looks like i3 3.7GHz and GTX 950 along with 16GB RAM is plenty enough to play, at least on the crappy 1680 x 1050 max res monitor I have! i would really try and get the i5 and skimp on the 16gb RAM 8gb is more then enough. the GTX 950 is a fairly decent budget card look up some benchmarks! i7 8700k OC 5ghz - RTX2080- 16GB RAM
June 6, 20168 yr Author So have upgraded the monitor to a 27" jobbie and I can confirm that with most settings on high and a resolution of 1920x1080 the i3 3.7GHz and the entry level Asus GTX 950 2GB absolutely powers through. Not sure what the actual frame rates are but the play is super smooth with no noticeable artifacts, lagging or stuttering of any sort. I'm stoked A $350 upgrade was all it took... http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp
June 10, 20168 yr if you are curious about your framerates. type statfps in the console (use ~ key to access console) when in game.I average about 50-60 fps at 1920x1080 with a 2600k, 16gb ddr3 ram and an EVGA GTX970. http://i.imgur.com/NdmsWeV.gif
