Posted August 26, 200717 yr Over the past few nights in particular I have been experiencing severe lag where previously I haven't. I am posting this topic in the hope that our admins can confirm whether this is a server issue and if so when it is likely to clear up. In particular Assault on Miestia the last 2 nights has seen strong lag where previously I havent noticed any. And today between 5:30 and 6pm EST on server 1 playing Daqang Oilfields I experienced several lag spikes and a general sluggishness towards the end that resulted in several avoidable deaths and the necessity of leaving the match. While im here, how long does it usually take for a server 2 game to appear in my battlerecorder list, assuming 2 is still running it? http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
August 26, 200717 yr assuming you have no hidden back ground progs running, its either simply the amount of people using the same "pipes" as you(well it is the weekend and the weather round the country is generally pretty crap ie more people inside on the internet),or the few high pingers in the game spiking it for you. Today on Dal oilfields there were several people on both teams in the high 200's. I had no lag but others (and you) clearly did. Do an rt trace, and check to see if your ping spikes when you use voip???? (and what the hell is up with the map votes..every player that joined seemed to do an auto map vote--blame EA???) http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif
August 26, 200717 yr ...or the few high pingers in the game spiking it for you. Today on Dal oilfields there were several people on both teams in the high 200's.I'm guilty of that on occasion It'll be fixed soon though! August 26, 200717 yr Author OK, I just tried to play Kyongan Ni and the lag is as bad as before. No idea how to do an rt trace but there are a few occurances that may relate to the problem. 1. When I first try to connect to the server it comes up with the message "your connection to the server has been lost." The second attempt works. This has only happened the last 2 nights. 2. Maybe its just a coincidence but the problem seems to have begun since I downloaded the Bioshock and transformers demos. The PC noob that I am, ill try a simple disk defrag and see if that makes any difference. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
August 26, 200717 yr I've been getting "your connection to the server has been lost' and then it works the second time as well. Started yesterday I think. Aresnik [WC] Leiutenant Braaaaaaaarp!
August 26, 200717 yr Same with the server loss first time round. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f162/rdeimel/T90sig.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f162/rdeimel/Badge-1.jpg I'm the dominatrix!
August 26, 200717 yr Rarely will a high pinger affect your game play. It would only be the case when you had 30 odd of them in a 32 player server would you really notice it. It would be more then likely that it has to do with your connection path to the server being interrupted somehow by either maintenance, EMI, old cabling etc. Or even as mentioned background apps, changed OS settings, game settings also. The only way you will know for sure is if you run a tracert. Search the forums for it, it was posted earlier how to do it. http://users.on.net/~mperrin/images/les_mis_kindros.png You're all wrong, and I am always right, and the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be. That is all! Va Fan Culo
August 26, 200717 yr When I first try to connect to the server it comes up with the message "your connection to the server has been lost." I get this without fail whenever I first boot up Battlefield 2142. After the first attempt it's fine. So it's not a BigD specific problem, but is still a weird one nonetheless. http://users.on.net/hindes/thephotoshop_sig1.gif http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/squadleader.gifhttp://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/stealth.gifhttp://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/singapore.jpghttp://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/valour.gifhttp://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/spec_hat.gif
August 26, 200717 yr I've usually got a ping around 160 - 180 and I've never really had a problem with lag, that was until the last week or two with server one, sometimes I have no lag and sometimes I have to just log off it's so bad, it seems to be only happening recently though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8jHy0BdZGw Choper is the man
August 26, 200717 yr Ditto on the connection loss the last 48 hours. The lag spikes are probably related to your ISP. There has been discussion on http://www.whirlpool.net.au the last couple of days about gaming problems with some big ISP's this weekend so maybe that is it? Certainlt bad weather = poor performance for me. The lag on Mestia the other night was only of short duration for me but right at the worst time! http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp
August 26, 200717 yr Ive lost connection three times over the last week, bouncing me back to the server selection screen - I've never had it happen before. Ive also been getting big lockups ingame, freezing on the spot over and over at times, on different maps. My ping is staying fairly steady, around 50-70... I restart the servers every morning and no other changes have been made to the server hardware as far as I am aware. We are actually on better equipment than we were a month ago so I'm leaning towards the ISP/network theory for the moment. Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
August 27, 200717 yr Bad weather always affects my quality. Just last night got my first login connection error, got in second time no worries but thats the first time its happened. http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
August 27, 200717 yr or the few high pingers in the game spiking it for you. High pingers don't lag the server. It hasn't worked that way in awhile, all they effect is themselves as they can't hit the broad side of a barn. Some geek explained why and when this changed but I forget myself. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. August 29, 200717 yr Author Call me stupid but every time I try to do a tracert it does the first Hop averaging around 5m and then on the second hop, and all after that, it just says "request timed out". I've tried it on server 1 and server 2 with the appropriate addresses, 47 for 2 and 48 for 1. I've started it before loading up PR as well as while im in a game and its always the same result. The problem could be with my connection/isp but I'm starting to wonder if my ram is playing up. I have 1gig and since having this sluggishness I am using about 950meg of it while in game. I don't know how much I was using prior to the problem but I never experienced the kind of lag I am now. And for whatever reason I am still getting that connection loss the first time I try to connect to a server. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
August 29, 200717 yr You pretty much need 2 gig for PR. Even more so for the latest patch. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. August 29, 200717 yr Author I know that 1 gig is pushing it but up until this last weekend I've had a smooth experience even on 0.6 (I have my video settings on low). Now I get lag spikes where my frame rate drops to an unplayable level. Sometimes a mass of in-game activity will coincide with it but at other times I'm only facing one soldier and the same thing happens. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
August 29, 200717 yr Wow, unlucky. I have no idea what to say to help you. When my rig is stuffing up I format the bastard and it cleans her right up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. August 29, 200717 yr Hey rouge, I am getting the same thing as you. Ive been playing PR for ages no problem. In the last few weeks I get lag that makes it unplayable for me. I did a search around and punkbuster seemed to have something to do with it. After manually updating it, as a few have suggested, it still lags like a biatch. Im at a loss on what to do :/
August 29, 200717 yr Come to think of it, punkbuster is no in my list of background apps and it was not before. How did it get in there? It got in there within the last couple of weeks also. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. August 29, 200717 yr Smoke, probably because PB had a new update released recently. Im still having 'lag' problems, with all settings the same as before. Also when I select a server and press join game, it straight away says connection to the server lost every time. Press join game again and it loads as normal... Former Head Admin Check out the current admin list HERE
August 29, 200717 yr Lag/dropout issues here too, never had them before. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
August 30, 200717 yr Author Tried playing again last night. First up was Meistia again. I was getting horrible frame rates and so was bayle aparently. What was really bizarre was that I got kicked by PUNKBUSTER for 0 minutes for some strange reason. Logged right back in and had just as much lag. I keep looking at my ping and its always around 30 or lower. Next up was ejod and that was laggy too. The fact that other people are having similar problems leads me to believe its not my PC. The prospect of formating my harddrive isn't very appealing either so for the moment I'm just going to keep testing the waters until the problem fixes itself or I lose interest. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/teamwork1.gif
August 30, 200717 yr Dont format your drive at worst use battlefield cleaner to remove all your video clutter, do a disk defrag. Check to see what apps you can terminate before playing, if you get lag in game just hide or laydown alt-tab out then Ctrl-Alt-Dlt and terminate your highest syc host service then jump back in the game normally fixes the lag for me even just alt-tabbing seems to pull the resources back to the game when you go back in http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
