Have a problem I haven't come across before.

I can't get in our (or any) servers with punkbuster,I can load and join for 5 secs then I get

"YOU have been kicked by punkbuster for o secs

Restriction:Service Failure,pnkBstrB.exe

Punkbuster handshake failed"

 

The only thing I can think of is that i've installed the arma demo ,and maybe its messed up my origanal pb some how....buggered if I know...

PB is there and running,but I keep getting kicked?

yes...thx guys- I did have to manualy update the pb--didn't know it ever needed to be done...first time its ever happened.

Evidently it needed to be done manually because:

 

It would appear that Punkbuster (that almost completely defeated but still integral part of BF2) has been updated. This update seems to have added some additional "services" which need access to the net connection.

 

PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe are the names of these files. I went through (so far) 3 server kicks due to these files not being updated properly or because ZoneAlarm prevented them accessing the areas they require.

To stop lag i've been trying to do the old BF2 pbsleep_500 thing and all I get is a message telling me wrong syntax???

Beginning with PunkBuster client version 1.500, we have extended the PunkBuster Anti-Cheat system to operate without the requirement to run PunkBuster supported games with Administrator privileges when running under Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. In order to do this, we have developed new Windows service components to work with the PunkBuster system. PunkBuster will automatically begin using the new service components on supported systems. To manually install/uninstall the components, users may use our PBSVC Setup Program. However, uninstalling the new service components will disable PunkBuster and may prevent playing on PunkBuster servers. PBSVC can be downloaded from http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe. Once the PnkBstrA service is running along with a new PB client version 1.500 and higher, running PB enabled games under Windows 2000, XP or Vista no longer requires Administrator privileges.

yes,i"m still having Pb problems,only in the last couple of days.have been manually updating it but its still giving me the sh!ts.

Thats what i've been doing but I keep getting the message "Error wrong syntax" ??????

Are you using the "" around the commands?

Cause you shouldn't be.

You also enter one command, press 'enter' and then type in the next one.

I think maybe I wasn't using the Caps though???? I will try again now...

put a partial in then push tab button, usually brings up the commands correctly.

Got it working now, strange I never had that problem before.

cant fix hanshake error with manual update thru evenbalance site, I've just run the punkbuster.exe program selected bf2 and watched pb in all its magnificent stupidity accomplish absolutely nothing..... whats this bout pnkbstrA and B ??? something more i need to do ?

I had the same problem last night,changed nothing and today its all good,not sure if by manually updating pB you end up with a "newer version" of Pb that the server itself hasn't yet updated to.

all a bit confusing...

One thing is that you MUST put Pb setup exe onto the hard drive (program files is a good spot) BEFORE running PB setup for the first time.

Have you only started having PB issues Baker?,or has it been happening since about the 25th of August.

Make sure your anti virus /firewall are letting PB access the internet-just turn it all off and see if u get the problem still.

P.S -I'm no tech guru by a long shot so these are more observations than answers-

After some googling,I reckon the server isn't updating the pB server updates as quick as it used too(before the Pb change).

"Players with a newer version of Pb than the server is currently running will be removed from the game"

Appearantly admins can see if you join with a newer version,but as it takes 5 secs to to kicked and the Text has a delay(admin view)afaik. I presume we get kicked at the same time the admins see it...--CAN any admin let us know if you see the "handshaking failure" or any other pB message when this happens..?

There is a command somewhere that should stop this. Something like "pb_security 0"

thnx bahlye, i've check servers 2 & 3 and all is well now, yep i've used that secruity 0 command in the past with varying results and cheers for the sleep 500 one as well had forgotten all about that little tweak.

Ok server 3 was out of date and is now running the lastest server files for PB

 

Server 1 and 2 will be done in the morning.

 

Mutant (GSA Admin and BF2 Guru) says you may have to use the lasted PB linked above.

managed to get on server #1 last night,couldn't this morning,firewalls are off,lastest pb update done,all the ad/spyware is outa of my pc-BUGGERED if I know.....
