How to Change Your View Distance in DayZ

Step 1: Find the Config File

1. Open your Documents folder.

2. Go to DayZ.

3. Find the file called <YourName>_settings.DayZProfile.

Example path:

C:\Users\<YourName>\Documents\DayZ\DayZ.cfg

Step 2: Open the File

1. Right-click <YourName>_settings.DayZProfile.

2. Choose Open with → Notepad (or any text editor).

3. Look for these lines:

   viewDistance=
   preferredObjectViewDistance=

Step 3: Adjust the Values

* viewDistance → how far the terrain (land, hills, etc.) is drawn.

* preferredObjectViewDistance → how far objects (players, zombies, trees, buildings) are drawn.

Recommended Settings for Our Server:

viewDistance=1000;
preferredObjectViewDistance=650;

We’ve had reports that using these values reduces disconnect issues and improves overall stability.

Going to low can also cause issues so some trial and error might be needed in some cases

Step 4: Save & Play

1. Click File → Save.

2. Close Notepad.

3. Launch DayZ — your changes are active.

Extra Tips

If something goes wrong, just delete <YourName>_settings.DayZProfile. DayZ will generate a new one when you next launch.

These changes are safe and supported — they’re normal DayZ client options.
