Dicksmith's (Sales)

I'm sure a few people already have either been down to their stores today following a leaked announcement of a "Clearance sale" followed by this announcement.

This Announcement

The biggest problem with this is, The stock. Yes I know it was a clearance sale, But 90% of the consoles and handheld consoles were actually taken by staff and put aside or bought the night before.

See that's not what bugs me, What bugs me is they had advertised prices for items, Take Microsoft points for example, They were clearing "old stock" but had "new stock" on the floor because of this people were grabbing new stock only to be told that it was new stock and not a part of the sale, Even though it was exactly the same product as the sale item.

That alone should get ACCC attention, but the next bit is what really got to me.

They mention that "ALL SALE ITEMS WILL BE AVLIABLE IN STORE AND ONLINE."

They only sale items that were online were 3 games that were already sold out.

So I ask you this BigD has DSE finally done it? Has DSE actually killed itself via a sale?

i really should research behore posting, and sounds

interesting dude, yours is the first post ive seen on it, sounds like solid grounds for investigation, even like they just put their fist into their own septick tank, n beyond doubt even they might cop the stink, but as you know there is so much fragrence in the world that most of us will block it out,

DSE facebook page has been bombarded with alot of pissed off customers with all that Cow has said

I'm more disappointed then pissed off, I could have dealt with it had they actually done the correct thing and not allowed their staff to "Hold" items.

Either way the ACCC should look at their practices.

Yeah either they were deliberately misguiding customers, or they are incompetent. Either way, I'm not at all impressed with DSE - not that I had much faith, to be honest. I know of several people who went into their shop on Saturday and sighted stock that was not there first thing monday.

.

Honestly similar thing happen all the time with EBGames, JB Hifi etc. They'll find out one store releases early so they all go open slather. Its what annoyed me about the TochPad firesale at HN, every call I made said "2pm" and after I hung up at around 11 or 12 on my last call they started selling them. Plus they were letting people buy multiples of the device which then promptly went up on eBay.
There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.
if they still have all the stock, then they should be able to do the special again, ;)

This is exactly what happened too me.

I went in the night before bascially casing the place, I was going to get the PS3 fifa edition for my better half because she always steals mine, they had 14 the night before, I went in the day of the sales and they had none, I did ask about this and was simply told that they had no stock left, So in the space of 5 minutes before closing they sold, 14 playstations at full price knowing that there was a sale tomorrow?

Bull****.

Hey Gents,

I hear you....I hear you all,as you have all made some valid arguments, vented some spleen,ACCC is bollocks etc..

Not trying to do the "wise old man sitting on a mountaintop meditating" routine, but in all seriousness, why are you surprised at ANY of this behaviour from a major retailer?

Obviously I am not trying to defend them.

Wokeye wrote:"Yeah either they were deliberately misguiding customers, or they are incompetent."

Answer:BOTH...It's deliberate misguiding by incompetent frauds.

They figure, once your in the door, you may as well buy SOMETHING since you made the trip.

Scenario:"Hey Honey,they didn't have the FIFA,but isn't this alarm clock awesome!"

If only that was the case, No alarm clocks were left, The staff took them all...

But in all seriousness, I was surprised actually, "Dicksmith's" was meant to be one of the more friendly retailers, With dick himself pushing hard to get customers back into the stores. This alone will set them back a fair bit.

Actually thought this was somewhat more frustrating.

Dick Smith has nothing to do with that retail chain anymore.

Its owned by woolworths.

I know that, Just Dick still talks a lot about the stores and media still talks to him about it, And hell it uses his name. Which is why I said that.

And those of us who are in proper jobs, $1157 is not a lot of money anyway. ;)

As always there is a right way and a wrong way to say things, aka if it's just stupid - don't post...

Feel free to elaborate on what a "proper" job is, please?

Is it the apprentice working for $6.50 hr on your car, bus, train or moto you take to work everyday/use on the weekend? How about his tradesman on $17-25 hr...? Or maybe it's the farmer busting his arse to put food on your plate? The manager at a local store where you bought your TV from perhaps? What about the student working anywhere to make enough to pay their fees?

Any job a person turns up to on a regular basis to put food on their table is a proper job. Pay rates are a stupid measure of success.

Stupity/ignorance would be a better one.
