Ok so seeing how everyone else has one I think its my turn for a new PC thread.. lol :D. I am looking for a mid/high spec gaming PC <$3000 that Will be used for gaming, photoshop 3d modelling ( Alot of rendering + 2 monitors and a TV for when I'm watching movies. ) And a good quality laptop <$1000 For general usage and playing mainly WoW or really any game if I feel the need too/unable to use my main pc at the time. I had rough Plans for a PC circa about jan/feb ( The money I am getting for this is long overdue )

Intel Core i7 960 $292.00

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard $225.00

Corsair Vengeance CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 $165.00

EVGA GeForce GTX 580 SuperClocked $599.00

CoolerMaster HAF 922 Case $129.00

OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD $219.00

Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB WD2002FAEX $165.00

Samsung SH-222AB SATA DVDRW Drive $29.00

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with SP1 OEM Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with SP1 OEM $105.00

CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ CPU Cooler $33.00

Also need to get a new monitor and at the time was thinking of:

ASUS VE248H 24" Widescreen LED Monitor $225.00

This rig from pc case gear came well under budget at the time but I know there is a better CPU, and gen 3 SSD's that don't have bad firmware would be better then gen2. And I could go more in the GPU department.. maybe.

as for the laptop I'm not 100% sure I had a look in dicksmith today and saw a few but i am clueless on them. I also plan to build this myself, I sorta know what I am doing but got a mate that builds them all the time on hand to help me. All advice/critiscm/thoughts are appreciated.

i see a few issues with your system, considering there is SATA 3 and Z68 i don't see why your going X58 and Sata II SSD... you need something a lil faster and for not much more..

i'm thinking..

2600K I7

GA Z68 UD4 B3 or anything high end Z68

12 GB ram is ok although 1600MHZ isnt as fast as you can get now..

GTX580.. yeah good..

HAF CASE is ok..

OCZ Vertex 2... nah mate.. OCZ Agility 3 will suit you much better and is Sata 3 ready.. and for only 40 bux more..

WD Black.. make is Sata 3 and your good to go.

DVD.. who cares.

Windows 64 but, good..

Dont worry about firmware issues with OCZ, they have sorted it out.. but IMO Agility 3 is much nicer and more reliable. 960 is discontinued... for a reason. so... just a thought just a thought.

Nice, laptop wise, i would say look at a HP (but now they are selling their PC division, i dont know how that would play out - could pick up a stonking bargain tho!), Asus or Dell.

You should be able to get an i5/7, 4Gb RAM, 750-1000Gb HDD, dvd (pos bluray), AMD gfx (suppose to be better than nVidia in the mobile segment) and around the 15" mark. Will get Home Prem as well for that price. JBs are pretty good to look at imo for cheap yet okay laptops.

I'm sorry, what???

Managed to get my POS Vertex 3 swapped out for a new one at the store I bought it from today thankfully.

8.5 hours just to get the firmware to update before I even installed anything, donwloading, checking, rechecking, redownloading, reredownloading. For some magical reason the OCZ updater won't allow you to update on your primary boot device (like Intel have), therefore you need to run a Linux based system off a flash disk or CD to get it to update. Problem is some recent boards fail when you try and update the firmware and you end up having to use (in my case) an old EP-45 series mobo and enough patch up parts to make it work. It's not just me though, have a look at the various forums about the OCZ SSD's and the firmware update issues BEFORE you buy one, unlike myself.

If you can get where-ever you buy it from to confirm (in OCZ's case) that its' firmware is 2.11 you should be in the clear - else wait until they can get one or get them to do it, it really isn't worth the pita if it does pack it in. Although who's to say they haven't ballsed something else up with this update... We shall see.

Back to reinstalling windows I go :disgust:

^I forgot PSU I was looking about 750W to power it all. I know not to scab out on the PSU, so I was thinking http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_535&products_id=17675

Unless someone can recommend better?

I've also come out with this to satisfy my needs and your observations.

( Im sticking with the Vertex 3 SSD Hoping when my order goes in about next week I get a working one ):

Same case as I quite like it HAF 922

GA-Z68x-UD4-B3

i7-2600k

Don't think that anymore than 16gbs or 1600mhz in the ram department is needed?Corsair DDR3 1600mhz

Aforementioned SSD

WD 2TB Sata3 Black x2

I know the nvidia cards usually run hotter than AMD.. But I am still unsure on this note, I do think that the 580gtx fits my needs though.MSI GeForce GTX 580 Twin Frozr

Not important but a necessary thing. DVD/RW Blu-ray Combo

That's coming in at $2389 all up with OS dvd drive etc.

Also had a quick look at JB and came up with http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/hp/pavilion-15-inch-notebook-sku-68146/

Much thanks for the quick reply's and the advice, let me know if you think there is anything that should be changed, and I am also unsure whether I will need anything else, Like a bay for the SSD so that it fits into the 3.5" HDD enclosure in the case?

Antec are a good PSU brand, cant really go wrong with them. Psyrus would recommend having a look at Seasonic(iirc?) as well.

Totally depends on if your mobo has 4 or 6 slots really. No point getting 2 x tripple DIMM kits if you can only use 4, so 16Gb will prolly be the max you can fit it now (unless you happen to find 2 x 8Gb kits, doubt that tho...)

Cant go wrong with WD imo, altho if speed is not a huge factor (either that or you're going to RAID0/1 them) you could look at the Samsung 2Tbs, suppose to be greener than the WD 'Green' yet faster than the 'Blue'

You may be able to pick up a 6970 for same/cheaper than the 580GTX, which gives you similar/faster(?) performance. Either way tho, both cards would be a great buy

Not important but a necessary thing. DVD/RW Blu-ray Combo

Recommend the LG for this, may be slightly dearer than some others but not the most expensive. Best bang for buck imo.

not a bad pick.

Bump!

I currently decide to build a gaming pc system only cuz i have monitor and keyboard and mouse and etc, but im a nowbie with hardware stuff. I ask few my mates they reckon following specs:

MotherBoard: msi Z77A-GD55 Intel Z77/LGA 1155

CPU: i7 3770 or i5 3570k

GPU: msi R7950 twin frozer 3GD5 or 7970

Memory: Samsung DDR3 1600 4G X2

PSU: Super Flower but i dont know 430W or 530W which is enough. :S

Case: Hope someone give me some hints frankly, i just need a simple case nothing fancy. budget limits :(

HHD and SSD: also need some recommendations :)

Plz help me with it. Well im thinking spending 1000-1500 bucks on this specs so basically the i prefer the specs just fit the arma 3 with smoothy gaming. and it is enough to me nothing more i crave.:)

Also if you guys know some well-priced online shops or local retailers in sydney CBD area. plz dont be selfish and hint me up and ill check them out. :D
