Digger shot?

No idea if it's the late night tiredness, etc but am I reading this right?

Also on Monday, an Afghan soldier got in an argument with a coalition soldier from Australia and turned his weapon on him, killing him, according to the local Afghan commander, General Hamid, who like many Afghans uses one name. General Hamid said the Afghan soldier fled and was being sought. The incident took place in southern Uruzgan Province. A Taliban spokesman claimed the attacker was an insurgent disguised as a soldier.

yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']

There's no excuse for shooting somebody.

But the aussie must have done something really pissed to make someone mad enough to do so.

(Just saying, Don't eat my face)

And that just sounds like rubbish!

Shady, just keep in mind that people in the ADF get a lil more infomation than what others do... there was a big conference about it this morning with interviews and such from the others in the area at the time, so leave it there mate, lets just mourn the loss rather than argue about News versions, as rhodesy said, "not the first time it's happened" and i don't for one minute beleive that our well trained digs would fire upon their mates own at all letalone whist on guard...

Anyone know anything further about the Chinook that went down as well or are the ADF still investigating that?

I think he was reffering more to the fact that a "Taliban spokesperson" came forward and took responsibility for the attack, whether or not it was really them.

Of course the Taliban are going to claim it was their operative, they want to destabilise the relationship between the international forces and ANA (and they are successful here, regardless whether it was actually their operative or not). I would imagine that tension towards and from ANA troops and trainees is pretty high today. /armchair general... chrisso is probably more in the know.

Condolences to the families of those lost. :(

To go from the fine piece of journalism, MX, a pilot was killed and five others in the helicopter were wounded.

DON'T YOU CLUCK WITH ME, BUDDY!

----------------------

After that night I started peeing out the window to avoid going down the hallway when it was dark.

For interest:

As I understand it, the soldier was on piquet and suffered three gunshot wounds, which if it's correct almost certainly means it was from close range and wasn't an accidental firefight.

The soldier on piquet was also from AACC, which means he's probably the first cook since at least Vietnam to be killed in anger.

This is what I've heard but I'm fairly confident it's true.

I'm a tiny bit concerned by the fact that whoever shot him wasn't engaged by another strongpoint that should have had a task across his front, but I really don't know what happened in any detail or with any certainty.

Slight misnomer. The "pilot" killed was a UAV operator doing familiarisation training on the chopper.

Saw the ADF article when finishing up at work, this bloke was pretty talented from all accounts, was in the Regs, then joined up with Commando's, transferred to flight school and got his wings, served in Qld during the floods and somewhere along the lines got into UAV ops and also flying Chinooks. Big loss with the skill set that guy had.

These people are going into gunfight and getting paid damn well to do it, why is it so surprising when they cop one in the face?

Respect to their families etc etc but when is everyone going to wake up and realize it's a war, people die, every single day.

Luckily Eisenhower had balls of steel, or we'd all be ****ed

Probaly becuase they didnt die in the heat of a firefight or out in the field, one died from a soldier he thought was on his side and a mate, and the other died in (from the information we have atm) a helicopter crash... A bit of compassion goes a long way crazy... and i dont see anywhere in this thread saying this wasnt expected...

If you knew half of anything about war, youd have a fond understanding of the word deceit. Go back in time mate, read some history, D-Day in WWII would have totally failed if not for fake comms and bull**** lies. Almost failed anyway, bull**** makes the world turn, get used to it.

It was about here that Crazy's fingers got him perma banned.

The ban is not because of this post, or the others forum guidelines he broke today, its for not keeping his promise to behave after I lifted his last forum restriction for being a Pita.

Final straw.

Im sorry but what does disinformation have to do with this? one was a cook and the other a UAV operator, not exactly top secret stuff to lie about... anyway want to keep arguing with me for the sake of it take it to PM...

RIP to the fallen.

Sorry dude, but i think your

etc etc
mutes the whole
respect to their families
angle you've got there.

Yes it is war, yes people die, but like Rhodsey said, you dont expect to be shot by your allies and you dont expect the chopper you're flying to crash, just like I'm sure those Navy blokes on Sharky 02 (iirc) didn't expect to crash in Indonesia and die due to a nut failing etc.

War is hell, maybe they get paid good money to do what they do but weigh that against being sent away from their loved ones to facing death every single day they are there and see if that 'good money' is enough. I dont think it is and I dont serve. They serve their country because they love it and like it or not, you and me send them to places like Iraq and Afghanistan to face death in our sted. You may disagree there, but our freely elected Gov't sends our forces over seas and you an me, like a lot of other people in this country voted them in so they act in our sted (whether we agree with them or not).

I have mates serving currently bud, one flying Chinooks and the other converting to Blackhawks atm and a number of the guys on these forums here serve themselves so when you say "respect to...", hows about you actually mean it?

dont forget these are the kids of a village who no body likes forced to join the army by their village elder

properly because they are addicted to drugs and are thefts

they dont want to be their

the international forces are trying to train these kids who have only had 2-6weeks training and some international people can be short tempered with them

idiots are hardcoded

Spon on, condolences to their families & friends but they joined the armed forces knowing where they would be going & what they were up against. I hope nobody joins the armed forces expecting not to be exposed to life & death situations (that goes for the people who are in the services in this community too).

RIP to the fallen diggers.
