Posted May 26, 201113 yr Hi! I'm kind of new around here and just for the record...I do feel a little douchey posting a "HELP" thread as my first post...but I'm a little over the edge and annoyed... OK, I started playing Project Reality at about 4pm yesterday. I have had the mod for 4 months(!) but it simply hasn't been working! (And I fixed it yesterday). I was having PB issues...but they seem to be resolved. Now, I can join a server just fine, and stay in for a period longer than 20 seconds. However, once the server is pretty full (maybe 50 peeps+) whenever I start a new map, I "lose connection to the server"...I then have 2500 ping (exactly 2500 that is) to that particular server (and none else...for example, if I error out on server A, server B still has normal ping and server A has 2500) and to try to join again, I have to restart PR. (Which just results in the same error mind you...even if I reboot.) I can join normal vBF2 games just fine, even full 64p servers. It's ONLY PR that gives me grief. But vBF2 sucks! :disgust: Before you ask, I am on a wireless connection...but that really shouldn't stop me full on from playing the game. I have all my PB things set through firewalls, updated and all that. I have reinstalled PB properly (with restarts and all that jazz) about 4 times now. I am officially out of ideas. Thanks in advance for any support given. As advance payment, have a smiley... :db: Pricklyman
May 26, 201113 yr Does any other error message pop up or just "You have lost connection etc...." [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
May 26, 201113 yr Author Well, in game it gives me, "There is a problem with your connection" then once it boots me from the game it gives me, "You have lost connection to the server." There's obviously something blocking something somewhere...the question is what, where, and how to fix it!
May 26, 201113 yr If you have Bf2, PB A and PB B in exceptions in your firewall you should be fine in regards to Firewall issues. What OS are you running btw ?. Have you run pbsetup?. But wireless connections can have odd issues, (to quote psyrus, "its not a belkin Router is it ? ") http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif
May 26, 201113 yr Author I'm running WinXP, and PBsetup is what I used to update after reinstalling PB all those times. Don't worry, I don't make new "HELP" threads until I've thoroughly researched myself! (So this means I know about PBsetup, PBsvc, firewalls, steam community [cause I have a steam version of the game] and all that other stuff!) BUT IT IS A BELKIN!!! I will grant you that. And no, I can't just buy a wire and wire it in since the router is on top of a bookshelf...So no one suggest it!
May 26, 201113 yr i would almost guarantee its the wireless dropping key packets i would suggest you "try" wired to eliminate it. m00
May 26, 201113 yr Author As stated, can't wire it. I know what you're saying, and I completely agree, but there really isn't a way to wire the damn thing! The phone line thing is in the most STUPID place in the house! (Right on a wall...in the hall...next to the kitchen...) Is there a way I can somehow get more packets through or something? I'd like to know how to turn off, "Packet Inspection" (I'm with IInet by the way) I had a google about it, and couldn't find anything. I tried a couple of things myself...but it didn't end well. (My internet wouldn't work at all, so I had to revert the settings...)
May 26, 201113 yr You can get 30-40 metre Ethernet cables, I have one. If I didn't I would have your same problem. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
May 26, 201113 yr or go for something like this: http://www.itsdirect.com.au/product_images/16NP285/twinadpt.jpg (google ethernet over power) http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png
May 26, 201113 yr I would say there is a problem with the punkbuster. Try Ctrl+Alt+Del and see if it is running in the processes. Without having PR turned on, PnkBstrA.exe *32 should be running at all time. If that is missing, try reinstalling the punkbuster manually by going here Update for BF2 and hopefully it will fix it for you. On another note, from the BigD community - we welcome you to Project Reality! May 26, 201113 yr I remember Psyrus always saying something about Belkin routers - he would always post a linky to something useful... Need to find that. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
May 26, 201113 yr Author Thanks for the help, but I really would like to re-itterate the impossiblilty of wiring it up. As I said before, I completely agree that wiring is much better, however it just 'aint gonna happen with my setup. (And no I'm not climbing in the roof to run wires... @Flowright PB is working fine as I said before, I just checked then and yeah, it's running. So no problems on that front. Thanks again for the support guys, even though nothing has come up to fix the problem indefinately, I still appreciate it immensly! MASSIVE EDIT: Well then, on the hunch that I'd be able to find the "Psyrus" post re: Belkin routers, I went on an hunt! And found something after a looooong while... But I guess for reference, I'll slap it in here... (In case someone has the same problem as me...) http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f370-pr-tech-archives/34988-belkin-router-connection-problem-voip-multiple-lan-players.html To quote the article linked... Belkin routers seem to see all the Voip and BF2 packages incoming as an intrusion (-> "intrusion detection") or DOS-Attacks (Denial Of Service) this happens especially if there is a lot of traffic incoming (2 ppl in the lan playing bf at the same time, lot of chatter via voip) if you have such a router and experience the above problem you might want to check the router's logs for "**UDP Flood to Host**" or similar warnings So thanks for the help, and hopefully...this solves the problem. (I did it myself through my router.) If I have any other troubles, I'll revive this thread... So then, final things... My Belkin router >>> You guys >>> :thumbsupsmileyanim: Thanks again, cya on the Battlefield. Edited May 26, 201113 yr by RoadHouse
May 26, 201113 yr I remember Psyrus always saying something about Belkin routers - he would always post a linky to something useful... Need to find that. Actually McDeth highlighted the issue on these forums - Psyrus has just been kindly pointing out that thread everytime this issue crops up. http://www.bigdgaming.net/showpost.php?p=93711&postcount=17 In his absence I'm sure he won't mind me sharing it. ETA Wow - the strength of your forums skills is great.. using the search function is not usually obtained until at least lvl 60 gg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png
May 26, 201113 yr Author Well let's just say I've been around forums and one of them, pretty much everyone who had the sanity to stick around for long enough was pretty much an un-official moderator... I actually used to have a long-winded speech about using the search function kept in a notepad file. But I lost it during a format. (Along the same lines I had a long-winded speech about how to properly report hackers to the TF2 admins of the server...but that was fixed by an eventual and much needed sticky being placed.)
