Joystick suggestions

So, back in the day I used to be quite good with aircraft in bf42, awesome with the little bird in DC and not to bad with aircraft in general in bf2. All of this was achieved with a very cheap, no name brand joystick.

I've attempted flying in PR (predominately off-line, once online and failed miserably) and my cheap joystick just does not seem to be able to cut it. I get very sluggish reactions and poor control from it. But I'd love to fly again.

It also seems to be useless in ArmA2.

Can any of our current list of pilots in the community suggest a joystick that has served them well with an inbuilt throttle that is not to heavy on the hip pocket?

For helicopter's, I reccomend using mouse and keyboard in PR. I find it a lot easier to control.

For jet's however, I reccomend the Logitech 3D Pro, comes with a throttle and isn't too badly priced.

Most of the community and the admins however found you to be highly irritating .

Saitek Cyborg3d is the one i use (saving for a TM Warthog tho!). Bear in mind tho that if you use it in A2 lower the sensativity to around 85-90% (same in IL2, ground loop if you dont!). Could prolly go a bit lower in A2 tbh as last time i flew it still seemed jerky but that could've been the monkey flying (o:

Recommend this - http://www.simhq.com for info on joyskticks, aimed more at the serious bloke but the tip i got for the Cyborg was one they mentioned for the Saitek X52(?) Flight System

There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.

I agree with this with the exception that throttle control is easier to manage when flying helos with the joystick regardless (but use your mouse for movement.

Big helicopter joystick fan over here... have used a sidewinder pro from 1998, logitech 3d for a while and a saitek cyborg evo. Each one had its own pluses and minuses, however I have enjoyed the evo a lot, especially with the profiler. That being said, their build quality doesn't seem to be all that great, having gone through 3 of them already :(

The thrustmaster T16000M was apparently very good aside from a very lame throttle mechanism, and it was the one I was going to buy if I wasn't able to open up my Evo and fix it... which I did :D

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

Ive got the Logitech 3D pro.

Its good for around $40.

The features I like about it are:

Twist for rudder.

Little joystick thing ontop of the stick, which I use for looking around the cockpit in ARMA 2 and for changing weapons in PR.

Fits nicely in my hand (its for right handers).

Throttle control. Good for when you want to go certain speeds.

Enough buttons for PR and ARMA 2 controls.

I like joysticks because I can turn in 1 smooth movement, unlike a mouse where you will run out of mouse pad after turning. I find a joystick to be just as precise as a mouse, it just takes alot of practice.

I have the logitech Extreeme joystick.. 2yrs and still going strong

I've got a Thrustmaster "Top gun afterburner" which I've had for I reckon 4+ years now. Only recently have I had a few issues with the thruster but otherwise sweet. Its nice because it also has a rudder control on the thruster which can be controlled with the ring and index finger of your left hand, leaving your right hand to focus more on the pitch/roll of the actual joystick.

If you are going to be playing other flight sims though you might aswell get a Saitek X52 or something in the brand name.

I was just wondering, with my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro how to make the buttons work in-game. I tried using the profiler, but when i launch pr the joystick does nothing. With the bf2 controls i only get one axis. For example i get rudder left-where left and right both cause it to go left.
This isn't flying. This is falling with style

Dont have to do anything in the profiler. Just go into PR controls and in aircaft or helicopter controls click on the thing you want to change (eg 'afterburner'), and then click on the button on the joystick you want (eg joystick button 2).

For the axis just click on what you want to change (eg 'Pitch Back') and then move the stick in the direction that suits the control (eg pull back for pitch back). It will automattically fill in the oposite control. So if you set up 'roll right', it will automatically fill in 'roll left'.

Just a quick question about My joystick!

I am using a Logitech Attack 3D and I believe there is a way

to set the trigger button the left mouse button.

But I just can't find a way to do it.

Have searched the internet and the profiler but No luck.

Does anybody know? ><

-Anybody else Korean around here?-
